Job Description -
NESsT is seeking a Communications Manager (CM) who balances inspiring storytelling with effective data collection and implementation. Our new colleague will raise awareness about the value of impact investing to solve the world's most pressing problems. The CM has primary responsibility for ensuring that NESsT communications are professional, high quality and designed to maximize NESsT performance and mission impact. The CM oversees and works in all aspects of external relations and marketing, particularly in articulating and communicating NESsT's impact to a broad audience. The CM position will coordinate the communications area of NESsT and will manage a team of regionally-based communications staff. The CM reports directly to NESsT's Associate Communications Director and NESsT's CEO who oversees NESsT's communication strategy.
The professional in this role will work closely with entrepreneurs, philanthropic partners, and the media globally to support data-driven marketing initiatives. Among the areas of focus are the following. Key Duties & Responsibilities
Communications
- Management:
- Under the guidance of NESsT leadership, develop and manage the implementation of a communications and marketing strategy for NESsT and report against goals to CEOs and Board of Directors. Strategy includes Website, Social Messaging, Media, Events, Dissemination, Publications and Marketing Materials.
- Research and preparation of talking points for speaking engagements of senior leadership.
- Ensure that all NESsT communications meet the organization's high standards and position the organization with all of its audiences and stakeholders, and ensure quality control with respect to issues such as brand management, writing and editing.
- Update the communications handbook, style guide and communications guidelines, tools and templates for program staff as necessary and monitor use.
- Oversee, in conjunction with local communications staff, the work of outside vendors, including graphic designers, editors, translators and printers.
- Responsible for managing all of NESsT's digital communications tools including online
- marketing, social media channels, e-newsletters, websites, etc.
- Establish and monitor metrics for the measurement of outcomes and effectiveness of communications.
- Content Development:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the editorial calendar and ensure that content deadlines are met. Refine voice and tone for consistency in communications across all channels.
- Write and edit content for the website, brochures, annual report, portfolio materials, press releases, banners and other promotional materials.
- Support community management across all media channels to promote NESsT's work.
- Content Marketing:
- Build and launch an integrated digital marketing strategy
- Identify business goals and build processes
- Develop long-term content calendar
- Collateral:
- Produce and plan photo essays and video briefs.
- Seek and work with creative specialists including photographers and filmmakers to produce multimedia content.
- Design and produce graphics using Adobe Suite and Canva.
- Website:
- Ensure that the NESsT website is functional and updated, assist in design, content updates, images, layout structuring, testing of new webpages
- Oversee NESsT website's SEO performance, conduct analysis and apply SEO keywords
- Support the design of A/B testing and paid advertising campaigns.
- Email Marketing:
- Lead in the design and execution of NESsT's email marketing strategy.
- Press:
- Manage press outreach and strategies for greater media visibility, in conjunction with PR firms in each country, proactively identifying and following up on opportunities for publicity and participation in events.
- Social Media:
- Monitor the performance of all social media networks and digital platforms and present growth metrics on a regular basis to organization executives.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the social media calendar and ensure that content deadlines are met. Refine voice and tone for consistency in communications across all channels.
- Events
- Develop a framework for events with detailed project timelines, roles and responsibilities, logistics, program structures, and marketing guidelines
- Support the execution of events, including lead planning and debrief meetings
- Operations
- Oversee documentation of processes in communications and contribute operational improvement ideas.
Impact Reporting
- Oversee the development of NESsT's Annual Report and other publications
- Collect communications content for donor proposals and reports.
- Support the development team in the submission of concept papers, pitch decks, and branded collateral to prospective and existing donors.
Position Requirements:
- At least 5 years of experience in content marketing and communications
- Demonstrated experience in managing and overseeing communications for a nonprofit or philanthropic organization. Organization with social enterprise focus is a plus.
- Supervisory/management skills strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is required.* Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, or Romanian is a plus.
- Strong technical background in digital campaigns, including social media management and design, website design and SEO, email marketing campaigns, is preferred
- Strong organizational and project management skills with an attention to detail.
- Preferably candidates have experience working in - or knowledge of - emerging market countries, social entrepreneurship, impact investing, and the nonprofit sector preferred
- Applicable undergraduate college degree;
- Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong demonstrated research, writing and editing skills (writing samples will be requested; professional editing and journalistic writing experience preferred).
- Prior experience in preparation of materials (brochures, annual reports, newsletters, press releases), development of website content, press outreach, mass mailings.
- Ability to be flexible, resourceful and innovative in a small, dynamic, nonprofit environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multicultural team.
- Advanced technology experience: Microsoft office, online tools, Adobe design suite, web content management software
Location: Based in the U.S. (Mid-atlantic area)
Schedule: This is a full-time, remote position.
