Established in 2011, the Hope Graham Program (HGP) at Bancroft School serves approximately 40 students in grades 2-8 with average to advanced cognitive abilities who present with diagnosed language-based learning differences. HGP is a program that provides students with the tools and support to be able to take advantage of a Bancroft School education in a fully inclusive environment.

Bancroft is located in Worcester, Massachusetts — a thriving city with a rich history and a bright future in which the school is deeply invested. Founded in 1900, Bancroft’s 30-acre campus is in a residential neighborhood just north of downtown. Our 430 students from 63 cities and towns around central Massachusetts represent a variety of different backgrounds that contribute to a unique and diverse learning environment.

In January of 2020, the school unveiled a 5-year strategic plan, BluePrint125— a product of extensive internal investigation and collaborative discussion among the School’s many constituents. In recent years, the School has made significant investments in campus upgrades to improve energy efficiency, air quality, and public safety. Other major campus enhancements have included the creation of flexible, multi-functional learning spaces in the areas of performing arts, athletics, and technology.

Position Summary
The Director of the Hope Graham Program is responsible for daily operations including teacher supervision, curriculum oversight, professional development and training, and family partnership.  The Director of HGP is experienced and knowledgeable about language based learning differences and the techniques and strategies for success with teaching these students. Further, the Director of HGP:

• Collaborates closely with admissions regarding the screening and enrollment of HGP students.
• Maintains daily oversight of HGP teachers, Speech and Language Pathologists, and independent Orton-Gillingham contract tutors.
• Oversees and manages the program budget.
• Leads hiring of HGP teachers and contracted tutors, including interviews, visits, feedback, reference checking and making the final recommendation to the Head of School.
• Works collaboratively with the Lower, Middle, and Upper School Heads to ensure alignment of program, services, and philosophies.
• Works closely with Coordinator of Tier III Academic Support and Director of Academic Support in the Upper School regarding transition of HGP students into the Upper School.
• Creates Learning profiles for all HGP students.
• Manages grants and entitlements for Bancroft.
• Provides direct service as needed to support the program.
• Reports to the Head of Lower School with a dotted line to the Head of School.
• The position is a 10 month position - school year plus two weeks before school begins and two weeks after it ends. Further, the Director will have a block of flexible summer hours for planning, working with HGP families, and supporting Admission.

As HGP continues to expand enrollment, this administrator will create a clear vision for the future of the program and will market and promote the program internally and externally. They will advocate for students and educate the community about learning differences and the variety of ways to engage children.  

The Director will work closely with all teachers and administrators to develop and implement best strategies and recommendations for students and to provide professional development for non-HGP teachers. Further, they will work with the administrative leadership to develop an action plan for the future of students as they progress through the program.

Requirements:

• Advanced degree in educational leadership or related field.
• Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner
• Prior teaching experience in an LBLD setting.
• Prior instructional leadership and/or administrative experience preferred.
• Knowledge of and experience in curriculum development, instructional methodology, and professional development, particularly in the area of LBLD learners.
• Ability to manage budgets, evaluate staff, and implement strategic plans.
• Understanding of diverse learning needs and the ability to create an inclusive environment for students, employees, and families.
