Job description

Wilkes University invites applicants for a Content Specialist to join our dynamic Marketing Communications team.

The Content Specialist will support the Marketing Communications department with writing and editing at a variety of levels for both traditional and digital platforms. The Content Specialist will also prioritize and track inbound content requests appropriately, collaborate with key stakeholders, and ensure open and responsive communication throughout the writing and editing process.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in writing for different audiences and collaborating with others to source information, ensure accuracy, and achieve content objectives. This role will work closely with members of the Marketing Communications team on a variety of projects to achieve university goals and offers the opportunity to learn and cross-train in other marketing and multimedia skills.

Job requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Developing and enhancing content for traditional channels, including magazine articles, announcements, marketing materials, press releases, media alerts, and signage.
• Developing and enhancing content for digital channels, including website copy, emails, video scripts, and social media posts.
• Interviewing students, faculty, staff and community members to create news stories, news releases and other short- or long-form content.
• Ensure that content aligns with University brand standards, style guides and accessibility standards, as well as best practices in creative and user experience.
• Assist in project management of key departmental initiatives that require copy and design assets.
• Collaborate extensively with fellow members of the Marketing Communications team, as well as stakeholders across campus, to achieve institutional goals.
• Use project management tools, content distribution platforms, analytics tools and content management systems to track projects, create and distribute content updates, analyze metrics, and contribute strategies to improve communications flows.
• Perform basic photography and video capture of assets to accompany content projects.
• Build knowledge of university programs and activities while establishing relationships with leadership, faculty, staff and students to identify content ideas.
• Serve as a point of contact for content related questions.

Desired qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, creative writing, advertising, marketing, or related field;
• One to three years of relevant experience in writing and editing for digital and traditional platforms;
• Demonstrated writing and editing skills with strong editorial judgment;
• Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style;
• Exceptional communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills;
• High level of creativity and enthusiasm for crafting content for a variety of channels;
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preference given to candidates with:

• Experience making updates in template-based content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Modern Campus, or similar);
• Experience using a project management system;
• Basic photography and video editing skills;
• Proficiency using analytics software (e.g. Google Analytics)

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
