Job Title - Systems Admin

Contract

Onsite in Toronto, Canada

Key Responsibilities of this Junior / Intermediate Role To Include:

  • System Administrator (70%)
    As a System Administrator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our IT infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our systems. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

  • Data Center Technician (30%)
    As a Datacenter Technician, you will develop an understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment under the guidance of more experienced colleagues.

System Administrator (70%)

  • Provide technical support to on-prem of virtual and physical Windows & Linux servers and technologies: troubleshooting, proactive capacity management, security management, backups, daily operation, and optimization.
  • Implement security measures to protect system data, networks, and information.
  • Conduct regular system updates and patches to enhance performance and security.
  • Support and manage MS Active Directory Users & Groups, including access control & authentication on NAS system.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to implement system enhancements and upgrades.
  • Manage and monitor backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Responsible for resolving infrastructure break/fix issues and enhancements in a timely manner.
  • Flexible in availability with regards to working hours and days scheduled required;
  • Participate in on-call rotation for addressing system emergencies outside of regular business hours.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date system documentation.
  • Liaise with third-party partners/vendors for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.

Data center Technician (30%)

  • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software components.
  • Routine checks of Data Center environmental device monitoring alerts (ie. temperature and humidity) and act upon and coordinate with Security / Facilities Management for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and hardware support vendor to initiate warranty claim and process failed vendor hardware devices. This includes information processing, packaging, shipment, and receipt of return for Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) devices following all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) related to RMA warranty process.
  • Develop working knowledge of stock control and inventory management practices and procedures.

Skills Required

The candidates must possess the following skills and experience:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • ITIL certification an asset.
  • 2+ years System Administration and support experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V etc.) and Server OS (MS Windows, Red Hat Linux)
  • 2+ years hands-on technical experience in troubleshooting network and hardware issues.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in Service Now from initiation to closure.
  • Strong technical documentation, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
