The members of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill work together for the purpose of a common goal: caring for the patient. The Department provides clinical services for over 100,000 patient encounters each year. In addition to outstanding clinical care in every discipline, including adult and pediatric pain management, intensive care, and pre-operative medicine, the Department is a national leader in education and research. We accomplish these goals in a cooperative, collegial manner, with a focus on mentoring and teamwork.

The Business Operations Professional is a pivotal role within the Department of Anesthesiology as it will superintend a wide range of functions critical to the success of the Department. This position requires a skilled leader with a strong background in business operations, personnel management, communications and higher ed advocacy. The position oversees administrative process improvement and delivery of provider services, residency program and fellowships programs student services, new employee onboarding, event management, marketing and external communications, internal communications and website management, alumni relations and fundraising, and the annual Carolina Refresher Course; a publicly accessible Continuing Medical Education (CME) Conference held at Kiawah Island, SC. Supervisory responsibilities will include multiple business/administrative operations staff positions.

The Business Operations Professional reconciles department needs with budgetary constraints while developing new processes and platforms to best serve the department’s goals. This position will play a crucial role in strategic planning and clinical business development for the Department by collaborating closely with the Chair, Vice Chairs, and ACA to meet the ambitious, purpose-driven goals established. Flexible work arrangements are available. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

  • Proven experience with administrative leadership, direct-report employee supervision and oversight of business/finance processes that impact an entire organization.
  • A proficiency with fundraising techniques and a track record of successfully cultivating donor relationships.
  • An extensive and diverse understanding of clinical and medical education environments within an academic institution.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Proven experience in significant event management, marketing, communications and team leadership.
  • Working /Applied knowledge with website management, social media strategies, content creation and editing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills are essential to success.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

A working understanding of the business and finance policies and procedures of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
