Job description

If so, we want to hear from you! LaSalle Network is partnered with a well-known health system that is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Inpatient Coder to join their growing coding team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and compliant coding of complex inpatient medical records, contributing to efficient claim submission and optimal reimbursement.
Inpatient Coder Responsibilities:
Review and analyze complex inpatient medical records, including physician notes, discharge summaries and laboratory results
Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and PCS codes for diagnoses and procedures, adhering to coding guidelines and regulations
Determine the Principal Diagnosis, Secondary Diagnoses (including Comorbidities and Complications), and Surgical Procedures
Assign the appropriate Major Diagnostic Related Group (MS-DRG) using the latest version of the Medicare Severity-DRG (MS-DRG) system
Research and clarify any coding queries with physicians or other healthcare professionals
Collaborate with the billing department to ensure timely and accurate claim submission
Maintain a strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
Inpatient Coder Requirements:
3+ years of experience in acute hospital inpatient coding (non-negotiable)
AHIMA certification: Must hold one of the following active certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding systems
Strong understanding of MS-DRG system and application to inpatient coding
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
