Summary:

Great River Energy is seeking a Peaking Plant Operator Technician at our combustion turbine plant located in in Cambridge, MN to provide for the operation and overall maintenance of peaking generation plant equipment to deliver flexible resources and reliable electricity to our members.

Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to

· Monitor and operate the turbine/generators, balance of the plant and all related power plant systems to assure safe and efficient plant operations.

· Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance on the peaking generation and associated equipment, including maintenance and installation of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment.

· Install, calibrate, program, troubleshoot, clean, inspect, and maintain instrument & control equipment throughout the facility.

· Perform instrument and control duties related to plant preventative predictive and corrective maintenance activities.

· Perform mechanical duties related to plant preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance activities including troubleshooting, repairs, and maintaining pumps, valves, piping, etc.

· Maintain and operate continuous emissions monitoring systems to meet required uptime and accuracy limits per federal, state and local rules.

· Respond to atypical system conditions, at times under emergency situations , and report findings to others.

· Perform regular equipment rounds, taking critical readings from instruments, reporting abnormal conditions and taking corrective actions as necessary.

· Respond to unit trips and abnormal operating conditions to maintain plant equipment in a safe operating condition.

· Maintain shift operating logs and records.

· Maintain, develop and follow operations and maintenance procedures.

· Apply correct lock-out/tag-out procedures for isolating, switching, releasing, or restoring equipment to service to facilitate repairs, reduce risk of personal injury, and prevent damage to equipment.

· Maintain proper work order documentation including the planning and scheduling of work activities through the maintenance management system (Maximo).

Qualifications:

A two-year electrical / electronic degree or diploma, or equivalent military experience, or relevant, or full-time experience of 4+ years in a combustion turbine power plant required. Strong electrical, instrumentation & control (I &C) and mechanical troubleshooting skills as well as experience working with rotating equipment and proven ability to perform a variety of electrical I & C and mechanical maintenance duties preferred.

· Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment.

· Ability to effectively operate power generating and associated equipment.

· Should be proficient with the use of computers, electronic equipment and software for reporting, logging, maintenance and parts.

· Requires flexibility, self-motivation, innovation, teamwork, fostering of collaborative working relationships and solid electrical and mechanical technical skills.

· The qualified candidate will also possess effective and concise verbal and written communications, strong trouble-shooting abilities and decision-making skills

· Qualified candidates will be required to take and pass the EEI Plant Operator/Plant Maintenance assessment (POSS B/MASS) as part of the selection process or be able to provide test scores if taken previously

· Ability and willingness to participate in the apprentice training program

· Training will take place on both the day and afternoon/evening shift. Day shift is 7:00 – 3:00 p.m. Afternoon shift is 2:00 – 10:00 p.m.

· Position may be working the afternoon shift 2:00 - 10:00 p.m. upon completion of the apprentice program

· There will be some overnight travel, overtime and/or working weekends

· Operator/technicians rotate weekend on-call responsibilities among the entire crew upon completion of the apprentice program

· The candidate must be able to reside within a 60 mile living radius of the reporting facility.
