PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS

The Church Pianist/Keys Player at Crossroads Baptist Church provides support to the Worship Pastor and Associate Worship Pastor. He/She provides support through a weekly responsibility of preparing for Sunday morning worship experiences and Sunday night rehearsals for the choir and instrumental rehearsals. He/She works to ensure that the Worship Pastor achieves his goal of building a spiritually strong worship ministry. He/She helps foster a pursuit of excellence in the worship ministry.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Play the piano/keyboard on Sunday mornings for the worship experience

2.      Play the piano/keyboard on Sunday evenings for choir and instrumental rehearsals

3.      Always be prepared to the best of his/her ability to maintain a culture and pursuit of excellence

4.      Play and perform in the annual Christmas production, committing hours of practice outside of the church to pursue excellence

5.      Adhere to all personnel/organizational policies & exhibit a spirit of cooperation with other ministry personnel

6.      Perform other acts of ministry as directed by the Worship Pastor, Executive Pastor, or Senior Pastor

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Church Pianist/Keys Player reports directly to the Worship Pastor and serves under his direction, being accountable first to him, then to the Executive Pastor, & then to the Senior Pastor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• A growing & active relationship with Jesus Christ
• Be proficient at playing the piano/keyboard in many scenarios, from more traditional choir specials, to playing a modern style of keys in a worship setting, to vamping behind any speakers on a Sunday morning
• Proficient at playing parts for choir and vocal rehearsals as needed
• Ability to work well with all levels of staff, volunteers, church members, etc.
• Exceptional character & attitude: including patience, reliability, & a pursuit of excellence
• Exercise good judgment & discretion; maintain confidentiality
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands & deadlines; demonstrate flexibility in the face of change or uncertainty
• As a leader in our Worship Ministry, the position requires becoming a member of Crossroads Baptist

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

High school diploma or equivalent required

SPIRITUAL REQUIREMENT

Agreement with Crossroads Baptist Church’s Statement of Faith. See sbc.net/bfm2000/bfm2000.asp for details.

TIME REQUIREMENT

10-15 hours per week on average, scheduled with Worship Pastor and varying depending on extra events such as Nights of Worship, Christmas rehearsals, etc. Hours are expected to be put in at home and outside of the church to practice for Sundays. No time in the office is required, except for occasional meetings throughout the year. Most hours will be put in on Sunday mornings and afternoons.

Position requires a pre-employment criminal background check and child safety training.
