Description of Work Unit The Department of Psychology is in CSU's College of Natural Sciences along with seven other departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The Department serves approximately 1400 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students, with approximately 30 full-time faculty members distributed across five doctoral programs: (1) Applied Social and Health Psychology, (2) Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) Cognitive Psychology, (4) Counseling Psychology, and (5) Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Department also offers two Master's degrees: (1) Master's in Addiction Counseling and (2) Master's in Applied Industrial/Organizational Psychology, which is an online degree. The Department houses several service centers including the Psychological Services Center, supporting graduate training objectives in counseling psychology while serving the CSU population's mental health needs; the Center for Meaning and Purpose, which focuses on acquiring, creating, and disseminating knowledge about enabling meaning, well-being, and positive health; and the Aging Clinic of the Rockies, which focuses on research, clinical services, and outreach for older adults in the community.
The Department proudly boasts the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research that concentrates on social problems that affect rural areas. Additionally, the department has an externally funded occupational health psychology training program, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Education and Research Center which provides financial resources to support graduate student education, research, and professional development.
The Department is primarily housed in the Behavioral Sciences Building, a building that was completed in 2010 and was designed to meet LEED Gold Certification standards for environmental quality, innovative design, sustainability, and efficiency. The Behavioral Sciences Building includes office space for all full-time faculty and graduate students, meeting and seminar rooms, state-of-the-art classrooms, numerous lounge and study areas, and a wi-fi cafe. Also included are faculty research laboratories in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and sensation and perception that have been designed to specification. Search Contact Email [email protected] Position Summary Assist PI in Psychology to develop system to alleviate challenges associated with optical brain imaging in people with thick and curly hair. The developed system would be holders/cap type system for securely and comfortably holding optical sensors on the scalp, accounting for hair styles that tend to push such sensors out of optimal placement
Position will begin work on approximately May 20th, 2024 and will end approximately on August 15th, 2024.
Position Minimum Qualifications - Biomedical engineering background, 2 years of undergraduate experience
- CAD design experience
Preferred Qualifications - Programming experience - Python and/or Matlab preferred
- Human research participant experience preferred
- Statistical coursework and experience preferred

Job Duty Category: Design and implement optical sensor holders
Duty/Responsibility Understand problem to be resolved with current imaging equipment, work with PI on design, create CAD drawings for 3D printing of prototype(s), and implement/evaluate prototype performance on real human subjects, assisting PI and staff with prototype positioning during experimental sessions.
