Lead Fleet Mechanic
MentorWorks Education Capital, a workforce development company, is looking for a Lead Fleet Mechanic to join one of our employer partners. Candidates will be screened by the MentorWorks team. If selected, the candidate will move on in the process to our employment partner.
General Purpose of the Job:
Repairs, services, and performs major and minor repairs to heavy duty trucks and related equipment on the trucks. Work on and repair related equipment associated with shop area and other equipment in and around yard area. This class is distinguished from the Fleet Mechanic by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned and the ability to work in the absence of supervision on an on-call basis. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
Individual Accountabilities:
- Performs repairs and maintenance on Ready Mix Trucks, front-end loader, rolloff, and other site vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations.
- Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related parts including valves, hoses, belts and alternators.
- Repair cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems; tune engines using standard testing equipment.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance work on vehicles, including lubrication and oil changes.
- Fabricate and weld to repair equipment as necessary.
- Pick up and deliver vehicles and parts.
- Clean and maintain the garage area and equipment.
- Road tests vehicles to troubleshoot problems and/or test repairs to ensure proper and safe completion.
- Makes emergency road calls to make repairs on trucks that break down while driving a delivery routes.
- Reads and interprets VCR's (vehicle condition reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. May discuss preventive techniques with drivers to minimize future repairs.
- Maintain records on all maintenance and repair work performed, track recalls, inspection dates, and warranties for all vehicles.
- Must have your own personal hand tools.
Physical Demands:
- Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; crawl, climb, and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
- Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
- See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical knowledge and certifications:
- Possession of a valid Class B driver's license with airbrake endorsement.
- 2+ years' experience in Diesel engines light//medium/heavy duty trucks.
- Knowledge and understanding of Electronic/Computerized diagnostic software a must.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ensure quality of work done meet highest standard.
- Preferred experience with SAP.
- Must have proficiency with Excel and demonstrated knowledge of computer usage.
