The Fairbanks Trial Court of the Alaska Court System (ACS) seeks highly dependable individuals to become Court Case Managers 1 (salary range 10). These positions are assigned to work in the Criminal and Probate Divisions. 

 


* Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with prior legal work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement. *


* Employees working in this job classification will be considered for annual salary increases upon successful completion of a 1-year probationary period. This job classification will promote to salary range 11 after successful completion of three years of service with the court. *

Criminal
This position will perform management of criminal and minor offense cases and provide customer service at the public service window and by phone. Responsibilities will include open new felony, misdemeanor, and other criminal cases in CourtView, exam filings for compliance, schedule arraignments, calendar hearings, process judgments, and close cases on misdemeanor judgments, felony judgments, orders to modify or revoke probation, dismissals, and bail termination.

 
Other duties may include expediting the processing of signed bench warrants, processing affidavits for failure to report to jail and cash bonds for defendants who have posted bail, and processing bail by counting, verifying amount, and properly docketing into CourtView. This position will review community work service, electronic monitoring receipts, and ignition interlock receipts for compliance with court judgments and manage an individual cash drawer to accept payments for bail, court-imposed fines, surcharges, restitution, and judgments.  

Probate
This position is responsible for case management of probate and domestic violence/stalking case types in their entirety. Probate case types include: estates, guardianship and conservatorship, adoption, minor settlement, mental and alcohol commitment, trusts, and wills. This position will assist customers in extreme distress, incapacitation, or cultural diversity, requiring superior listening and communication skills to elicit information from customers.

 
In this role, you will review submitted petitions for rules compliance, review and determine appropriate action for incoming case pleadings, recognize and handle documents requiring priority action, process and distribute orders and notices, docket orders, schedule events, update parties, and track files for follow-up on mandatory and ordered events in CourtView. Additionally, you will manage an individual cash drawer to accept payments for filing fees and other transactions.

The Fairbanks Trial Court is located in the beautiful Rabinowitz Courthouse at 101 Lacey Street in Downtown Fairbanks. Our building is located next to Golden Heart Plaza, the Alaska Siberia World War II Memorial, several bike paths, and the Chena River. Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

 

Substitution:

 

Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.

 

Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.

 

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
