Job description

Morning Edition Host

Iowa Public Radio
Des Moines , IA

Application Deadline: Tuesday, Mar 19, 2024

Description

Iowa Public Radio is searching for a smart, energetic person with great news judgement to join our News team as the Morning Edition Host in our Des Moines newsroom. You’ll not only be IPR’s voice of morning news and our daily news podcast, you’ll also help shape the program – interviewing reporters or newsmakers, and occasionally producing pieces of your own.

You’ll join a great team of reporters across Iowa covering topics ranging from state government, to agriculture, health, the environment….and every four years a bunch of people who want to be president.

We’ve got a strong relationship with NPR: We’ve been part of its political and state government reporting partnerships, and we’re part of NPR’s Midwest Newsroom, which focuses on enterprise and investigative reporting.

This is an exciting time to be at IPR. We plan to add several people to our newsroom this year, covering politics, agriculture and climate, Latino communities, as well as editorial support.

What about Des Moines? It regularly shows up on Top Ten lists of great places to live for recreation, low cost of living, and more. Like to eat out? Des Moines has a great selection of restaurants and brew pubs. Music? We’ve got music festivals like Hinterland, 80/35, and many other concerts. Like to bike? Check out the few hundred miles of connected bike trails that will take you from downtown, through the suburbs, and into the countryside.

If you’ve got strong news judgment, care about ethics and diversity, can handle several things at once, work well early in the morning, and are committed to making great radio, we’d love to hear from you.
