Summary:
The EHS Manager – Hobbs Brook Real Estate (HBRE) is responsible for developing and managing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs to meet FM Global strategic and tactical needs across the Hobbs Brook (HBRE) portfolio of properties and projects. Principal responsibility is the development and execution of best in-class programs and standards for the design, construction, and operation of office and manufacturing facility infrastructure. This individual will partner with property and operations management, real estate, legal, and other functions to ensure properties are code and regulatory compliant, as well as safe to operate and maintain. This individual will also partner with multiple property managers to ensure HBRE buildings are operated safely and in compliance. Further, this individual may interface with HBRE tenants primarily in the Greater Boston region. This individual will represent the Company in activities such as excavation, construction, and remediation, and shall engage and support members of HBRE’s real estate team in lease negotiations. This individual will also support training programs, reporting, and be a member of the HBM Safety Committee.
Schedule & Location:
This is a full-time on-site position in Waltham, MA. Weekly (20%) local travel based on business needs is required between Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Flexibility for remote work one day per week based on business needs.
- l development/capital projects and serves as the EHS subject matter expert pertaining to construction and facility operations management.
- Guides external consultants on various EHS topics pertaining to facility construction and operation.
- Ensures contractors are incorporating appropriate safety programs within their construction projects.
- Oversees a program to manage contractor prequalification activities and periodically assesses third-party construction safety programs and work practices.
- In partnership with property management and project management, ensures appropriate EHS policies, standards, and procedures are developed, in place, and align with FM Global strategy, goals, and objectives.
- Conducts periodic audits of HBRE operations and construction projects.
- In partnership with property and operations management, ensures all aspects of occupational readiness pertaining to EHS are understood and in place, resulting in FM Global compliance with applicable EHS code and regulation.
- Establishes, administers, and updates specific EHS programs, including records management, for compliance with state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other regulations, as necessary.
- Supports EHS permitting submissions and ensures ongoing compliance through periodic monitoring of records, working with consultants as needed.
- Provides strategic and proactive direction on initiatives to improve the company’s EHS performance while minimizing risks and exposures.
- Develops a safety training program tailored to the focus and specific risks within the HBRE business and ensures training is administered at appropriate intervals.
- Stays informed of current and new regulatory requirements and other guidelines.
- Communicates significant regulatory and technical information to appropriate personnel within the Company.
- Serves as a member of HBRE EHS steering committees and/or working groups.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, EH&S, or related discipline.
Highly Preferred Education:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Required Work Experience:
- 7+ years relevant experience related to the design, construction, and operation of life science or other manufacturing buildings with progressively increasing responsibility in implementing environmental health and safety (EHS) programs and managing those programs for multi-site operations.
- Environmental management experience is required.
Highly Preferred Work Experience:
- Experience developing and leading formalized safety training is desired.
- Experience in construction, facilities management, food service and hospitality industries preferred.
Required Skills:
- Expert-level knowledge and application of environmental health and safety regulations and familiarity with EHS regulatory agencies’ protocols (OSHA, EPA, DOT, MassDEP, etc.).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills including the ability to explain technical health and safety concepts in simple terms.
- Knowledge of safety management practices including behavioral safety, task analysis and consensus building.
- Skilled in performing health and safety inspections and ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.
- Hands-on experience in an industrial or manufacturing work environment.
- Must be able to lead through influence.
- Ability to collaborate with others and achieve results through others.
- Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
- Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare executive level reports.
Highly Preferred Skills:
Industrial hygiene experience and ergonomic program experience preferred.
The hiring range for this position is $130,700-$187,800 annually. The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
