This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Moores Cancer Center and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 54 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. As a consortium cancer center, it is a collaborative partnership between the UCSD: encompassing 28 departments, 6 schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Biological Sciences & the School of Physical Sciences), UCSD Health oncology hospitals and clinics; the basic and public health research and outreach of San Diego State University (SDSU), and the basic and translational research of the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI). These various programs and units are all dedicated to fulfilling the Moores Cancer Center's mission of reducing cancer's burden. The Community Outreach & Engagement (COE) Coordinator will work with health education programs at Moores Cancer Center (MCC) to facilitate community health education and outreach efforts and serve as a link between medically underserved communities and programs in San Diego County and Imperial County. The COE Coordinator will work with the Population Sciences Program, SDSU/UCSD Cancer Center CREATE Partnership, Community Outreach and Engagement, and the Clinical Trials Office at the MCC to identify deliverables and coordinate a timetable for the deliverables. The COE Coordinator will be responsible for outreach and education to priority organizations serving San Diego communities of focus – primarily Hispanic/Latino and Asian/Pacific Islander serving organizations.

The incumbent will: 1) participate in an annual training, assist in message development for culturally competent study brochures and educational materials, disseminate relevant NCI messages, materials, programs, and clinical trial information; 2) regularly meet with Community Outreach & Engagement Manager (and team), and supervise the outreach activities of (2) community health educators; 3) identify needs and provide culturally relevant, evidence-based, cancer education materials; 4) provide individual and group education, and participate in community events and outreach activities representing the cancer center; 5) support collection of process evaluation data, and help establish protocols for data collection;6) assist with internal projects within Moores Cancer Center (e.g., clinical trials office, disease teams, patient navigators);7) help assess program effectiveness, accuracy, and consistency, and continually work to address concerns regarding program requirements; and8) work with a diverse team of investigators, and provide feedback for successfully meeting goals and objectives.
