As Associate Director, you will develop an Agile vision and strategy for IDEXX R&D, focusing on sustainable improvement in our ability to deliver quality software.
As a critical member of the IDEXX team, this position will join a vibrant and committed group of entrepreneurial leaders driving advancement in veterinary health information technology leveraging an agile software development approach.

What can you expect? - In this role, as Associate Director, you will have responsibility for collaborating to shape global agile strategy, develop an agile practice team and new agile processes, define and advance agile-at-scale models, and general management of the agile practice organization. Responsibilities also include defining and managing key performance and impact metrics for the software process and adhering to the resource constraints of an operational plan.
- Develop strategic vision and direction for IDEXX Agile Practice in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Assess agile trends in the industry and innovation opportunities to leverage process models that continually improve team delivery, product quality, sustainability of teams, and predictability of projects.
- Define methods of expressing value in the product roadmaps, aligning closely with key stakeholders to ensure the highest impact projects are clearly understood.
- Define and enable the achievement of key performance goals and metrics.
- Responsible for collaborating with direct team and cross-functional partners on the R&D portfolio roadmap prioritization.
- Lead a team of highly motivated agile team members responsible for improving cross-functional software teams and ensuring excellent delivery, team sustainability, and quality.
- Recruit talent as appropriate, both externally and internally, to advance the team's purpose.
- Develop strong relationships within the IDEXX network and with key strategic partners.
- Communicate, support, and lead execution of IDEXX Purpose and Guiding Principles.
What do you need to succeed? - Ability to explain and implement the Agile Practice vision and mission to executive leaders to gain support for the long-term agile strategy.
- Deep understanding of software patterns from working directly in a software role such as developer, tester, product owner, or other, and from acting as an Agile Practitioner in a variety of industries and levels of large organizations
- Successful track record of implementing agile-at-scale processes, including value stream mapping, flow metrics, story mapping, value delivery, scrum at scale, and other applicable models in large engineering organizations.
- Strong ability and skill in negotiating and managing Agile team interactions and integration points with non-Agile groups.
- B.S. or higher in software engineering or related engineering degree.
- 15+ years of technical software role experience, having spent time in two or more of the following types of roles: developer, tester, and product owner.
- 15+ years working in enterprise-level companies developing agile-at-scale processes and models.
- 15+ years of progressive leadership and management experience.
- 15+ years of Product Management, preferably in software, information technology, or related healthcare, biotech, or diagnostics.
- Proven collaboration, management & leadership abilities.
- Strategic thinking and planning to ensure continued growth.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Effective communications (presentations, correspondence, and 1-on-1 across the whole company at all levels).
- Strong business acumen with proven ability to use key financial indicators to make business decisions. I mplementation of Agile principles at an Enterprise level.
- Create/communicate vision among many regions/lines of business/functional groups.
- Strong leadership/developmental/motivational skills with diverse groups of people.
- Organizational and people development, performance management, and change management. Change agent within an Agile Environment.
- Ability to hire and develop people who will challenge the status quo and consistently add value to the organization.
- Proven organizational management abilities.
- Hybrid work arrangement with proximity to commute to Westbrook headquarters regularly.
