Company Overview:

At our organization, we are dedicated to improving the lives of patients with rare respiratory diseases by developing cutting-edge inhaled therapies. Our flagship project, currently in Phase 2b, aims to address pulmonary fibrosis, a significant unmet medical need.

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a seasoned Controller to join our team and take charge of various critical financial functions. This role involves spearheading the development and oversight of accounting operations, including but not limited to R&D accounting, cash and AP management, general ledger activities, technical accounting, payroll, SOX/internal controls, financial close process and SEC filings, financial consolidations, as well as audit and tax oversight and support. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, proactive, and ready to contribute to our dynamic, rapidly expanding organization. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Finance.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage the company's general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, research and development accounting, stock compensation, payroll, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Ensure timely preparation of monthly financial statements and reporting packages in compliance with GAAP standards, accurately reflecting the company's financial position.
- Collaborate on the preparation of annual budgets and internal reporting of actual and forecasted results on a quarterly and monthly basis.
- Establish and uphold accounting policies, procedures, and systems to ensure GAAP compliance and maintain robust internal controls.
- Review contracts for appropriate accounting treatment and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Coordinate year-end and quarterly audits with external auditors, assisting in the preparation of audit schedules, data, information, and financial statements.
- Lead the development of the accounting team, providing guidance and support to accounts payable, staff accountants, etc.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual government/regulatory filings as needed.
- Collaborate with HR on the payroll process, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to safeguard financial integrity.
- Manage financial communications with collaborators and oversee specific projects and initiatives unique to a growing biotechnology startup.

Key Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA or equivalent required, advanced degree preferred.
- Prior experience in public accounting and SEC reporting preferred.
- 8-10 years of combined public, industry, and accounting management experience, with 5+ years in the biotech sector.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance.
- Experience with financial reporting, analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and managing relationships with external auditors.
- Proven leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to research and conclude on complex issues.
- Startup mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant project management software.

This is a remote position.
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $ 150,000.00 180,000.00 Per Year
