Job description
The Student Program Coordinator for the Center for Service Learning leads development and execution of the unit's student facing outreach, support, and recognition services of the unit. The CSL's goal is to provide students with personalized consultations and coaching as they explore service learning and civic engagement opportunities at KU. This role will provide scheduled student appointments and drop-in office hours to assure student access and connection. The student program coordinator reports to the manager of the Center for Service Learning.
Through community and campus partnerships, the KU Center for Service Learning advances service learning, community-engaged scholarship, and civic engagement that fosters a commitment to participation for a diverse, just, and global society.
Program Coordination, Advising, and Student Support - 45%
- Deliver student-facing support and connection efforts to increase student participation in service learning and civic engagement opportunities through curricular and co-curricular activities.
- Promote, schedule, and provide individual student consultations and coaching appointments, using approved KU student appointment systems (Jayhawk GPS/Navigate) to schedule and document these appointments.
- Develop, promote, and facilitate student and staff programming (e.g., trainings, information sessions, guest lecturer) to strengthen student involvement and service learning and civic engagement.
- Support the CSL’s economic opportunity and barrier-reduction activities, including the Student Community Action Corps and the Community Service Capacity Award program.
- Provide advising and administrative support to CSL-advised student organizations, including Alternative Breaks, Center for Community Outreach, and Student United Way.
- Engage with student organizations and act as a liaison for student community service groups and initiatives across KU’s campuses.
- Instruct in-house service learning and social awareness courses on a semesterly basis. Adhere to University policies and procedures on student grading, academic integrity, and FERPA compliance.
Outreach and Event Coordination - 45%
- Develop student-facing promotional materials, outreach initiatives, and events to support student awareness of and connection to the CSL and recognition of participation in service-learning activities (e.g., Service Showcase and Celebration).
- Create and disseminate communication materials for CSL student program and activities (e.g., social media content, newsletters, and print materials).
- Support Program Manager in administration of CSL website and creation of press releases.
- Promote the Certificate in Service Learning and participation in service learning-designated courses through in-person and virtual communication strategies.
- Oversee promotion and selection of CSL's student-focused awards. Support nominations of students for campus, regional, and national awards as applicable.
Other Duties as Assigned - 10%
- Attend CSL and relevant team meetings
- Support documentation and assessment activities.
- Participate in relevant professional development.
- Other tasks and projects as determined by the Program Manager as relevant to the position.
