Job Description



Visa is seeking a passionate, authentic, dynamic and results-oriented leader to join the Finance team as the Vice President of Financial Systems Strategy (“FSS”). FSS is responsible for managing Finance’s technology systems and tools, working directly with the Finance Leadership team to design the future architecture and drive Visa Finance's technology modernization roadmap. This role involves collaborating with key stakeholders across Finance, IT and the broader business to understand stakeholder needs, identify improvement priorities and execute on the roadmap to better support our business.

FSS focuses on delivering a holistic Finance technology roadmap to provide best-in-class systems, tools and data to Visa’s Finance function. FSS enables Finance to drive efficiency and effectiveness through globally consistent systems and processes, delivering enhanced analytics and insights, ensuring strong compliance and controls, and establishing robust Finance data governance and master data mgmt. The design and execution of this strategy must be flexible and scalable to adjust to changing business needs.

Currently, Visa is going through a holistic finance transformation program across processes, systems and data touching multiple functions including budgeting, forecasting, revenue, operating expense and reporting areas by introducing automation and self-service, enhancing business intelligence and data analytics, eliminating manually intensive work and implementing integrated systems to drive process and controls. The next few years are critical in Visa’s transformative journey and this position is required to bring thought leadership, pro-activeness, out-of-box thinking and change agility to drive us forward. 

This position will oversee a team of 30+ individuals distributed across the globe, will be based in Foster City, California or Austin, Texas and report to the Senior Vice President – Head of Finance Transformation. The Vice President of FSS must be an outstanding business leader with a proven track record of success in managing a best-in-class finance systems function, have extensive experience in leading cross-functional teams through complex system implementations, be able to demonstrate good end to end process understanding and have a strong working knowledge of functionalities in the cloud and on premise applications such as Oracle EBS product suite, SAP product suite, Hyperion Planning, Oracle Revenue Management & Billing, TM1 etc. This position must also have a strong track record of delivering on process automation, continuous improvement, data standardization and enhancement, self-service tooling and analytics improvements.

This role will lead projects from inception to completion, including managing the Finance technology budget, overseeing resource allocation, driving timely capacity planning, tracking technology project execution, ensuring user testing and taking interventions to ensure on-time delivery of promised milestones and value. This role includes regular interactions on various initiatives with the Group CFO, Regional CFOs, Business Heads and Senior Leadership team, and is responsible for collaborating with Finance product owners and functional teams to identify and prioritize requirements, use cases etc. to jointly develop and execute a Finance technology and data roadmap. This position will also be responsible for working closely with cross-functional stakeholders globally including Finance, Procurement, Controllership, Sales, Marketing, Product, Technology etc. and lead the various region(s) through system changes. In addition, this role needs to deliver business benefits, which in turn will translate to better client service, enhanced employee engagement scores, and drive efficiency while maintaining strong controls.

 

Key success criteria for this role include the ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment, drive global requirements and design, maximize the use of system functionality, articulate complex system issues in a simple manner, recommend practical and operational solutions and proactively assess & implement the impact of process and system changes on both external & internal customers globally. Specifically, the Vice President needs to demonstrate the following in this role:

Strategic Thinking : Execute upon the vision, mission, strategies and annual goals for Finance in alignment with the Company's goals. Design and maintain a 3-5-year Finance Systems roadmap that serves the requirements of the various stakeholders. Lead the development of the annual capital plan as well as forecast updates. Manage the funding approval process by ensuring all funding packages are submitted for approval to project investment committees in a timely and accurate manner. This requires close partnering with FP&A and Technology to oversee the timely delivery of project cost estimates and statements of work. Understand the business context and propose solutions that can be implemented across functions within regions, hubs and global. Have a strong business sense and clearly define the system solution including the pros and cons in the context of the business environment.

Seamless Execution : Be responsible for providing global oversight, management and execution against the 3-5 year global financial systems strategy and roadmap. This role needs to be able to oversee large complex projects including obtaining funding, collecting business requirements, creating functional design, evaluating technical design, co-developing the implementation plan, managing end user testing, implementing the system and finally providing post go-live support. Additionally, partner with the business to assess the impact of any on-going process changes on systems and provide practical advice. This role requires the candidate to be organized, structured and diligent in setting time-bound objectives, navigating roadblocks and eliminating barriers to successful attainment of those objectives.

Influence without Authority : FSS is a group that facilitates system implementations by being the liaison between Business and Technology. Therefore, being regarded as a subject matter expert and developing strong relations with the key partners such as IT PMO, Technology, Finance Managers Process Improvement, Change Management and other groups is critical to the design and implementation of large financial systems initiatives. This role is required to drive this behavior within team members and be able to influence cross-functional teams towards effective decision making.

Customer Focused Solution : FSS needs to demonstrate a robust understanding of the operations to clearly articulate the system impacts of large transformational changes to the organization. FSS partners with the business in identifying process changes and driving improvements through systems, tracked through a robust set of Finance tech effectiveness and efficiency metrics. This role needs to ensure that the project can deliver the benefits outlined in the business case and that it meets the reasonable expectations of end users. This role tracks satisfaction of Finance and business stakeholders with Finance systems, tools and data, and supports initiatives to improve global adoption, consistency and collaboration on Finance tech initiatives.

Talent Management, Retention and Development : Directly manage a team of 30+ individuals located in Foster City, Miami, Singapore and Dubai. Also, in a matrixed structure provide oversight and drive alignment across global and Europe FSS team. Demonstrate flexibility in style to bring out the best in people with different backgrounds and working styles, while unifying them in purpose, role clarity, and expectations related to deliverables. Develop a strong pipeline of internal talent and develop their capabilities by cross-training across multiple platforms, enhancing business partnering with Finance and IT counterparts, building strong functional understanding, developing skills related to new technologies, and driving a continuous improvement mindset. Additionally, develop the next successor for this position.

 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

• 12 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD

• 15 or more years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, PhD)
• 15+ years of experience managing large teams and major strategic projects within a large, publicly traded corporation
• Strong foundation in managing and leading the deployment of financial system applications (Oracle EBS product suite, Hyperion Planning, Oracle Revenue Management & Billing, etc.) at a global, public company
• - Experience designing and executing a digital transformation (preferably in Finance)
• - Experience in functional collaboration to identify and prioritize requirements, create system / tool use cases, draft functional design etc. Experience in designing, structuring and implementing new operational policies and processes in support of new financial applications
• Strong organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to manage numerous projects/deliverables against set deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others in a high stress, fast paced environment.
• Progressively increasing responsibility over his/her career with respect to scope of work and team size

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 218,100.00 to 300,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
