Director of Academic Success & Bar Support College of Law The University of Illinois College of Law is one of the oldest and most prestigious law schools in the United States and is part of a major public research university. The College of Law is committed to academic excellence for all students, and is seeking a dedicated academic success professional to direct the College of Law's Academic Success and Bar Support Program. The position is based in Champaign, Illinois.
Job Summary Direct the College of Law's Academic Success and Bar Support Program.
Duties & Responsibilities - Individual Student Support. Provide one-on-one support to students to promote each student's academic success in law school and successful performance on the bar exam. Advise, assess, and coach JD students. Partner with faculty members and student, career, and counseling staff to support students.
- Academic Success Programming. Work with faculty and staff to help students develop study, legal analysis, and exam-writing skills that enhance their academic performance. Develop and implement academic support program, setting goals and measuring outcomes, developing plans, and engaging students. Work with colleagues to support student academic success. Identify and address barriers to students' academic success. Continuously improve professional skills and connections, participating in regional and national academic support conferences.
- Bar-related Programming. Develop and implement bar preparation program, building on the existing 'Countdown to the Bar' programming at the College of Law. Develop and present programming to inform all students about bar-related issues. Oversee and conduct outreach to recent graduates to encourage completion of bar preparation courses and help address barriers to bar preparation. Establish and maintain relationships with bar examiners in Illinois and other jurisdictions. Develop and maintain expertise in the various bar exams College of Law graduates take, including the current Universal Bar Exam and NextGen Bar Exam.
- Data Tracking and Analysis. Track and analyze student data to identify academic and bar-related risk factors and trends. Coordinate and maintain bar passage records for institutional reporting and analysis. Track graduates' registration with and progress through commercial bar preparation courses.
- Other related duties as assigned. (For example, active participation in Orientation and Commencement.)
Travel Requirements 5% Occasional travel to conferences or for professional development
Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school, a Bar membership in a US jurisdiction (may be inactive), and two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications Prior employment in a law school, particularly in connection with academic and bar success; advising, counseling, or teaching experience; experience in law practice; and experience working with students with disabilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and knowledge of learning and teaching strategies.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is between May 16 and August 16, 2024. The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $110,000.
