Job Summary
Draws, processes, and/or tests blood and orders all supplies for laboratory and x-ray room and processes x-rays.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
Performs laboratory analysis on selected samples for patients such as blood counts, mono test, strep test, pregnancy test, chlamydia, sickle cell, various chemistry tests, urinalysis, wet prep, KOH, etc...
Assists in performing quality control checks on all testing kits and instruments.
Performs x-rays on patients and trains additional personnel on imaging techniques.
Assist in writing all laboratory policies and protocols for testing and handling samples, maintenance on all instruments, quality control, and waste disposal.
Orders all supplies for laboratory and x-ray equipment.
Assists in proficiency testing on known samples of CLIA rules.
Assists in maintaining all service on instruments.
Assists in keeping records of all laboratory work done, maintenance, and any specimens sent out of laboratory.
Practices universal precautions of health care.
Serves on Quality Improvement Committee and Planning Committee.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree and MLT certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Utilizes personal and network computers, imaging machine, photocopy machine, scanner, fax machine and calculator.
Competent in the following software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Medical Manager, Web processing, Power Point, and Electronic Health Record Software (experience with PyraMed electronic health record software preferred).
Uses standard office equipment such as stapler, staple remover, and scissors.
Preferred Qualifications
X-ray training preferred (or willingness to be trained within first 30-60 days of employment). Member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology
