Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Data Science position beginning August 26, 2024. The department seeks engaging teacher-scholars who will inspire our undergraduate and graduate students while complementing the research areas of the department.
Applications from all areas of data science are encouraged. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in artificial intelligence methodologies, specifically deep learning, natural language processing, and/or data mining.

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or closely related field (by March 1, 2025);
- Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of Data Science, Statistics, and Mathematics courses to students with diverse backgrounds and skills;
- Commitment and ability to maintain an active program of scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with deep learning, natural language processing, and/or data mining;
- Experience collaborating with industry partners on data science projects;
- Proficiency in programming languages typically used in data science such as Python, R, and SQL, and familiarity with data manipulation, visualization libraries, and version control.
- Experience or interest in directing students on research/independent study projects.
