This position is a direct report to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and is accountable for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective Talent Acquisition and Compensation programs for UC Davis, including both the academic campus in Davis and the health campus in Sacramento. This role is responsible for leading all day-to-day operations pertaining to talent acquisition and classification/compensation as well as developing strategies for improving and evaluating these programs and partnering with stakeholders to ensure inclusive and customer-centric approaches to program development and enhancements. It is integral to the success of these programs that the leader ensure clients and customers are receiving timely and accurate services to meet current and future needs of the institution. This role must ensure HR, including Human Resource Business Partners (HRBPs), have the tools and support they require to work directly with their departments on both campuses to provide expert advice and support when required. The incumbent must foster high ethical standards in bringing forward organizational strategies that align people strategies with institutional goals and overarching strategic plans. In partnership with the CHRO, this role is accountable as a member of the HR Senior Leadership Team to provide vision, leadership, strategic direction, management and operational control for talent and compensation strategies. This role is responsible for implementing and operationalizing strategies ensure effective day-to-day operations as well as continuously improve customer satisfaction, maximize efficiencies and effectiveness, and achieve diversity and inclusion goals as well as other policy objectives. This position will attend committee meetings as well as participate in work groups and task forces as required to keep apprised of UCD business and ensure appropriate resources are assigned to programs/projects and that important initiatives are being advanced. - Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible and directly related experience in an academic, medical, or multidisciplinary environment. Experience leading talent acquisition and compensation programs, including at least 2 years of senior leadership experience.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies which align departmental services within an overarching strategic plan.
- Good working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Prior experience in a unionized environment and familiarity with collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience aligning compensation programs with recruitment strategies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of compensation programs, incentives, recognition, and reward theories.
- Skills to negotiate, influence, organize, plan, problem-solve, and collaborate with leadership and clients to achieve desired objectives.
Preferred Qualifications - Certification as a compensation professional and/or, Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM's equivalents.
- Direct experience with Lean management and/or an understanding of the principles of Lean process improvement and Return on Investment in HR.
- Experience in higher education and/or a healthcare environment.
- Track record of success in all aspects of human resources administration including strategy, organizational development, problem solving, change management, leadership development, succession planning, HRIS, Compensation management, employee and labor relations and human resource administration and training.
- A demonstrated track record for establishing both efficient and effective day-to-day operations whilst also managing innovative and forward-thinking initiatives that move the department forward.
