Position Summary/Description:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine, Song Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology seeks Research Assistant Professor candidates with expertise in molecular biology, multi-omics analysis, microscopy/imaging, and neuron-glia interaction to join a growing program aimed at understanding cell-type specific mechanisms underlying broadly defined hippocampal functions at the circuit and molecular levels using mouse models.

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate will be expected to direct a research program within the overall context of advancing the central goal of the Song laboratory, which are to understand cell-type specific mechanisms underlying broadly defined hippocampal functions at the circuit and molecular levels using mouse models. 
The individual should have experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in their area of expertise. The successful candidate should have a record of publication, and excellent verbal and written skills as evidenced by presentations and lead-author papers. A demonstrated facility to keep abreast of new technology and some experience with grant writing as a team member are highly desired. 
The ability to collaborate effectively with other investigators and trainees will be important as the candidate is expected to work on projects with a team as well as interact supportively with students and technical staff. The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of experiences in gene expression analysis specifically real-time quantitative PCR and RNA -seq on micro dissected brain regions and FACS isolated cells, basic molecular techniques (RT- PCR , molecular cloning, etc), bioinformatics analysis of large single-cell RNA -seq datasets, differential gene expression analysis from high-throughput RNA sequencing datasets using Cufflinks, DeSeq2, and Kallisto/Sleuth, microscopy/image analysis with a focus in In vivo imaging and confocal microscopy, and mouse genetics.andidat
Along with above-mentioned experiences, the ces with the background in neuron-glia interaction are preferred. The ideal candidate will also have been successful in securing funding through internal or public fellowships or grant applications
