As a Lead Game Designer at Super Joy Studios you will be a creative visionary - constructing design choices for the many unique and immersive Fortnite Creative experiences SuperJoy Studios creates for its thousands of worldwide players! In this role your primary focus is to turn multi-million dollar client ideations into actionable deliverables for you and your team of Technical Artist - with the end goal of creating high quality and unforgettable experiences in UEFN. As the Lead Designer you will be responsible for rapidly prototyping everything from level design to mechanics and ensuring the team hits their deliverables right on the nose - don't be surprised to roll up your sleeves and get in the fun too!

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS - Act as a visionary and leader - turning client's concepts into actionable deliverables for the team of Technical Artists you will lead to execute on a diverse variety of experiences you will help bring to life in Fortnite Creative.
- Turn creative ideation from clients into on brand game mechanics, level designs, rules and progression systems. Ensure branding remains consistent throughout the player experience.
- Work closely with the Department Head and Lead Developer to ensure project goals are met on time and within budget.
- Ideate processes or avenues of improving project timelines and cost. Develop design documentation and best practices that standardize and expedite processes.
- Manage a team of Technical Artists to ensure the delivery of high-quality assets in a deadline driven environment.
- Hold the team accountable to a high degree of quality with all submitted works. Act as the final step in the experience's quality assurance from a design perspective.
- Collaborate with the technical artist and development teams to ensure the successful integration of design elements and client branding requirements into the game. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and work hands-on with the team!
- Manage the team's workflows, priorities, and performance through use of Asana and Google Suite. Continuously seek to remove bottlenecks.
- Perpetually review and analyze player feedback to identify areas of improvement and make necessary adjustments to the game design and mechanics.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure games remain innovative and engaging in the ever changing Fortnite Creative space. Provide industry training and new tools to team members.
- Provide critical feedback to team members and clients on everything from game rules, features, and levels. Conduct and review others and your own play test results frequently.
- Be a champion of our culture and encourage a psychologically safe work environment where team members can provide feedback and creative input. Utilize feedback from team members and clients to improve workflows, game design, and user experience.
Your Past Accomplishments - Strong Bonus: Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in video game design roles, with a focus on creative or custom game modes. Experience in rapidly blocking out maps, prototyping and iterative design.
- Strong bonus: Experience with games such as Fortnite Creative, Roblox, MineCraft, Garry's Mod or alike.
- Exceptional leadership skills and experience managing a team of designers. Proven experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Wizard like understanding of Unreal Engine and Creative mode tools. Proven past experience creating functional levels and expert understanding of Blueprints in UE.
- Blue Shell bonus: Experience building Fortnite Creative Maps or Gaming Experience. Or casually playing Fortnite and its Creative Modes.
- Significant scripting and prototyping experience. Strong understanding of asset creation through UE and other industry-standard software such as Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, and Substance Designer. Ability to problem solve technical issues and debug.
Please Note - While this position can be remote, you will be expected to maintain a set schedule that allows for easy collaboration with the team. Expect to have a majority of your working hours set between 9 to 5pm CST.
- This role is a full-time contract position. Expect 40-hours per week with additional availability outside of normal working hours for product launches and updates.
