Human Resources Manager
Turning Point Search (On-Site Plant / Facility)
- Lansing, MI
Responsibilities:
- Reviews and consults on management practices to ensure fair and consistent treatment of around 150 people (employees and union) and that the Lansing facility is in compliance with all relevant legislation and corporate policies and procedures.
- Oversees health, safety, environmental compliance including workers compensation.
- Researches and benchmarks other organizations to gather relevant data to establish best practices within the organization (e.g., shift premiums).
- Assists in creating an environment where there is respect and dignity in the workplace for all employees by providing management with the necessary tools that will assist them in dealing with managing people (i.e. external seminars, internal training workshops).
- Attends management meetings to field questions regarding HR matters and provides information/counsel as needed.
- Conducts employee focus groups to solicit feedback on particular issues and/or concerns and compiles report and/or analysis with recommendations to management.
- Produces and develops reports on workforce demographics that help to understand company's culture and provides recommendations as to how it can be improved.
- Leads recruitment process in the facility/plant.
- Conducts exit interviews with employees who voluntarily leave the organization and compiles periodic summary report on results.
- Reviews current performance appraisal process and makes recommendations on enhancements.
- Revises and maintains an updated benefits, policies and procedures manual.
- Develops and implements a compensation plan to include bonuses, incentives, reward and recognition.
- Oversees the disciplinary function to ensure equitable and consistent applications.
- Designated manager to protect confidentiality of classified and/or personal information.
- Any other reasonable request made by management.
- Contributes to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring the principles of the 5S discipline (simplify, separate, sanitize, standardize and support) are supported and adhered to.
- Ensures he/she is in full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, while representing the plant or during the use of any company provided equipment.
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum 5 years management and 10 years HR experience
- Experience working in a union manufacturing plant environment supporting at least 100 union workers and 50 employees
- Sound knowledge of the federal and state employment laws
- Understanding of the automotive/manufacturing industry
- Dealing with employee relations issues and recommending course of action
- Determining appropriate steps to follow regarding disciplinary action
- Recommending external vendors for training and/or consulting taking into consideration budget constraints, culture and program offerings
- Handling of severance packages considering all factors
- Maintaining departmental budget
- Development of direct reports
- IATF 16949 & ISO 14001 requirements are adhered to
- Joint accountability with management on consistent, equitable treatment of employees
- Accountable for overseeing the selection recruitment process and that all steps are followed
- Establishes/maintains relationships with all employees throughout the organization, as well as:
- Potential employees
- State and federal employment agencies (Michigan Department of Labor, Michigan OSHA)
- Suppliers including benefits brokers, insurance companies, trainers, recruiters, and providers of legal counsel
- Workers compensation carriers, administrators, health care professionals
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or related field required
