Description
SAIC is searching for a Biological Systems Engineer. Current work consists of developing, characterizing, modeling, integrating, analyzing, and demonstrating biological and bioprincipic systems with potential applicability to autonomous systems. The candidate will research the capabilities of existing Natural Systems Sensing Lab (NSSL) systems, refine current capabilities, and participate in identifying requirements and developing designs for new instrumentation. The successful candidate will have experience in conducting independent and collaborative research projects in the areas of sensory biology, visual neurobiology, and boprincipic engineering. They will also possess biological lab technical skills (e.g., microscopy experience, electrophysiology experience). be highly proficient in constructing and implementing biological/optical data acquisition systems, and in developing data processing and analysis pipelines for these systems. Our customer is the US Air Force Armament Directorate Office located at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (M.S.) or Doctorate (PHD) in Biology
- Experience with collecting and analyzing data from biological experimental rigs such as an electroretinography rig (electrophysiology) including the ability to troubleshoot, fix, modify, and improve such devices
- Candidate should have significant experience and proficiency with multiple programming languages to support data acquisition and analysis (e.g., LabView, Python, R, MATLAB, C++, etc.)
- Candidate should have experience and proficiency with light measuring equipment and optics (specrometry, microspectrophotmetry (MSP), etc.)
- Must have a proven record of excellent teamwork and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
- Must have experience and proficiency with various imaging microscopy equipment and methods (e.g., visible, fluorescence, confocal, SEM, TEM, MSP, etc.)
- Candidate must have experience and proficiency with histology methods such as neural tracing and tissue labeling.
- Candidate must reside in proximity to customer laboratory and be able to work in office and attend briefings/meetings.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance.
