Position Summary/Description:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.


The Student Wellness Coach will steward an environment that will foster the development of lifelong skills for achieving and maintaining optimal physical and mental health for Kenan-Flagler students. This position will advise and counsel students on physical and mental health wellness. This position will primarily work with the approximately 800 students enrolled in the Undergraduate Business Program ( UBP ). The coach is responsible for providing brief mental health and wellness assessments and when appropriate, work with the student to develop and implement a plan for healthy habits and overall wellness which may include return visits and coordination of referrals to appropriate medical and mental health services, as needed. Student Wellness Coach responsibilities and services include, but not limited to counseling, nutrition, fitness, mental health, disability, accessibility, health education, prevention, and other wellness related services. The coach will be responsible for developing and implementing, events, activities, programs and policies to promote and support overall student well-being and academic success.

This individual will have the necessary authority to articulate a strategic vision for championing a healthy environment for all students in the Undergraduate Business Program and will be responsible for leading institutional efforts to improve student mental health and wellness. The Student Wellness Coach will act as a liaison to faculty and staff providing guidance and support and will identify needs for program development. This position will work closely with the UNC Counseling and Psychological Service and other campus services.

Education and Experience:

* Experience working with adult learners in an academic college/University setting
* Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to health care delivery systems including
HIPAA , FERPA , and the Jeanne Cleary Act.
* Knowledge of emerging issues and trends in the field of mental health, student health, wellness and
accessibility.
* Three or more years of experience as a social work practitioner, counselor or higher education
professional.
* Currently qualified as a Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach ( NBC - HWC ) and/or a Certified Health Education Specialist ( CHES ).
