Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated experimental Associate/Director of Early Discovery to support the Early Discovery team. At ARTBIO, we couple our ability to generate 212Pb to novel chemical scaffolds which are developed to specifically bind to tumor targets with high affinity. This opportunity is for an individual who strives to innovate, is never satisfied with routine, and has a strong heart for ARTBIO’s mission. A self-starter and innovator, you will be primarily responsible for leading key programs from our internal and partnered Discovery portfolio as well as support the build of the Early Discovery Biology disciplines.

With prior successful leadership in small molecule and/or peptide chemistry programs from Hit Identification to Development Candidate nomination is essential, you will be a subject matter expert in at least one of the following: pharmacology, assay development, cell and molecular biology or protein biochemistry to help support the growth and evolution of our platform as well as the Boston-based, early discovery team.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for designing assays as well as analyzing data which characterizes emerging chemical equity and supports Discovery development through H2L, LO through to DC milestones.
• Lead the prosecution of individual target programs – close collaboration with internal as well as external SMEs, working seamlessly as a part of cross-functional team to advance programs through critical decisions and stage-gates while understanding the criticality of safety, efficacy, and differentiation
• Scout and help select external partners for discovery services. Directing and managing CRO’s supporting the drug discovery programs. Provide oversight into the productivity of the CROs and budget for the programs.
• Good knowledge of parameters and design principles, how to develop assays which predict these features and are important in defining drug-like properties as it relates to RLT
• Help guide the research strategy for exploratory and early-stage drug discovery efforts, especially in the new target identification and attractiveness assessment.
• Present scientific work at the internal and external meetings, write manuscripts for publication.
• Engage in efforts to advance the pre-clinical development of our lead RLT cell assets and participate to IND-enabling studies. Participate in writing IND study reports and IND-enabling documentation
• Maintain detailed records of experiments, analyze and compile data, and present in group and company meetings

Qualifications & Experience

• PhD. with >10 years of experience in leading medicinal chemistry directed oncology Drug Discovery programs is required; Experience within the area of radioligand design for radiopharmaceuticals is desired.
• Relevant practical knowledge of biochemistry, protein sciences and molecular/cellular biology with a first-hand experience of phase transitions for compounds from early discovery leads to clinical candidates and the ability to navigate in a start-up environment and adapt in the ‘unknown.’
• Experience in working with external partners (CROs, CMOs) and securing intellectual property.
• Understanding of the principles of pharmacology and their application in a Drug Discovery setting
• Extensive experience with  in vitro biology assays which are used to understand SAR, pharmacological assessment, and Drug Discovery program execution as it relates to HitID, LI, LO phases of drug discovery.
• Experience in biophysical techniques such as SPR, MST, ITC, etc; and or experience with protein production (bacterial, mammalian) and purification; and/or a cellular/molecular biology techniques supporting assay development desired
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively with other scientists and research associates to accomplish goals on tight timelines
• Skilled at working in a multi-disciplinary environment, a track record of team working and collaboration
