About the Cornell Human Ecology Department

Cornell University is an innovative Ivy League university and a great place to work. Our inclusive community of scholars, students and staff impart an uncommon sense of larger purpose and contribute creative ideas to further the university's mission of teaching, discovery, and engagement. With our main campus located in Ithaca, NY, Cornell's far-flung global presence includes the medical college's campuses on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Doha, Qatar, as well as the Cornell Tech campus located on Roosevelt Island in the heart of New York City. We offer a rich array of services, programs and benefits to help employees advance in their career and enhance the quality of personal life, including employee wellness, workshops, childcare and adoption assistance, parental leave and flexible work options.

Cornell Human Ecology explores the complexity of human life. We bring together a wide range of perspectives to understand the full context of the human experience and improve lives at every scale, from cells to society. Our research and academic programs focus on the interaction of humans with their biological, economic, social and physical environments. Using Cornell's far-reaching extension network and the college's translational research methods, we deliver our findings directly to communities and families, ensuring that our work reaches those who need it most.

The Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy harnesses the University's broad disciplinary excellence in public policy, along with its innovative teaching, research, and engagement programs, to solve pressing global challenges. The school's prestigious faculty apply an interdisciplinary and problem-oriented focus to wide-ranging public policy issues as they explore how government choices intersect with people's lives. The school's initial areas of focus are in data science and technology policy; environmental and sustainability policy; health policy; global security; inequality and social policy; the politics and economics of development; and race, racism, and public policy.

The Opportunity

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

The College of Human Ecology is currently seeking a desktop support specialist with strong customer service and teamwork skills to work in an environment that is technologically dynamic. This important support role demands knowledge that is current and applicable in a mixed Microsoft and Macintosh environment and being open to enhancing and changing skillsets as the environment does. The specialist will join a team that provides front line service when users have questions or problems arise and is integral to the deployment of new technology and systems. The desktop support specialist needs to be a patient teacher of users, particularly when introducing new applications or software.

Support core technology tasks that connect customers to commodity services. Work with service providers to correct functional issues. Work with customers to develop requirements for new technology needs. Process, purchase and deploy new customer-facing technology. Provide customer training on the use of core technology. Maintain documentation for customer and technical support use. Provide customer training on the use of college technology services. Assist customers with developing good computer skills and safe computing environments. Assist other team members in implementing and deploying new core services.
