Job description

As a Systems Engineering Manager you will manage a team of Avionics Product Systems Engineers. Responsibilities include ensuring milestones, regulatory, and customer requirements are being satisfied for small to large, simple to complex avionics products throughout the life-cycle development and change activities. Provide varying levels of support and guidance to engineers having minimal to extensive levels of experience with avionics projects, which may require providing detailed instructions / direct supervision for work assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following , (some of which may be delegated to lead systems engineers when prudent and appropriate).
- Provide definition, oversight, and continuous improvement of UASC’s Systems Engineering development processes and associated standards.
- Drive recruiting, training, and team building efforts for Systems Engineers.
- Ensure system level architecture and product level regulation requirements are covered.
- Identify major systems tasks required for a project.
- Ensure accuracy of estimates to complete small to large, simple to complex avionics tasks.
- Provide ROM estimates for business proposals.
- Oversee and facilitate Systems Engineering activities within team projects, working groups, and design reviews.
- Maintain status and high-level knowledge of the milestone progress for all projects involving Systems Engineering.
- Mentor systems engineers and other personnel on systems engineering or company products.
- Perform performance appraisals for Systems Engineers.
- Possess an advanced knowledge of CFRs/FARs, ACs, TSOs, and MPS affecting systems requirements documentation and processes.
- Possess an advanced knowledge of aircraft systems, including applicable TSOs, MPS, etc.
- Promote research and development on emerging technologies and product concepts.
Ensure delegation of the following tasks is appropriate and satisfactorily performed by the assigned systems engineer: - Development and/or revision of content for the functional description document, the system requirements data, the interface description document, design verification test procedures, and human factors test procedures.
- Hardware and software configuration control, verification, and validation.
- Accurate system requirements allocation and tracing to subsystem e.g., hardware software, database.
- Develop (or revise) content for the TSOA, Advisory Circular, or TSO compliance matrix reports, and compliance rationales.
- Critical review of relevant product documentation.
- Drive to resolution documentation review comments and findings.
- Systems bench testing, design verification testing, human factors testing, acceptance testing, problem report testing, and resolution of test discrepancies.
- Review and provide input to problem reports and/or software changes that include flight deck effects, operational impacts, and system safety analysis.
Additional duties, for assignment to systems engineering resources: - Participation in product team meetings
- Provide progress reports for project milestones to senior systems engineers, managers, and program management.
- Address product support and field service technical questions.
- Review of product support installation manuals, operator’s manuals, and configuration manuals.
- Systems technical resource for hardware qualification testing.
- Author, investigate, and provide inputs to the problem report authors.
- Leadership and/or mentorship roles on projects.
- Presentations at industry meetings.
- Review of software and hardware requirements.
- Support DO-178 and DO-254 verification activities as required, including review of software requirements test plan, procedures, testing, structural coverage, verification results and reports.
