Job description
Functional Summary
A heavy highway construction company is seeking an individual to work hand in hand with superintendents to ensure the day-to-day operations and timely completion of all construction projects. This role includes the oversight of crew personnel, equipment, and overall safety of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the foreman include, but are not limited to:
- Direct activities of workers concerned with construction of highways and other construction projects.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and assists in final planning and implementation of work plans, as needed.
- Work with superintendent to hold daily safety meetings and ensure that all employees follow safety practices
- Ensure all employees are working together efficiently and supervises operation of all machines and equipment used on jobs. Foreman are responsible for the day-to-day occurrences on the job site.
- Work with superintendent to coordinate various phases of construction to prevent delays.
- Communicate with supervisory personnel and human resources representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within workforce.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to. Inspect job progress on all jobs on a daily basis.
- Work with superintendent to see that appropriate personnel is scheduled and materials/equipment are received for each job
- Ensure job tracking reports, daily log sheets, daily employee time, and all other necessary paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner
- Be constantly aware of job progress including time frame.
- Coordinate maintenance of equipment and vehicles with the mechanic shop.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
- Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Work Experience
- 3+ years experience with heavy highway paving
Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements.
Working Conditions
- Out of town travel might be required
- Overtime as required
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements
