Job description
Our client, a distinguished contractor specializing in professional service deliverables for the federal government, is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Operations (DOO) to lead and optimize day-to-day operations. The primary work site is located in Tysons Corner/McLean, with occasional visits to client teams in the DMV area and potential travel to remote CONUS work sites. This role typically requires a minimum of two to three days in the office.
Role Overview:
As the Director of Operations, you will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence. Key responsibilities include:
- Recruiting: Collaborate with HR to establish a robust hiring pipeline, manage advertising, select candidates, extend offers, and oversee the seamless onboarding of employees and individual contractors.
- Project Monitoring: Partner with project managers to structure and monitor projects. In certain instances, the DOO may step into project or client management roles as needed.
- Partnerships: Work closely with Contracts and Accounting teams to structure and monitor agreements with subcontractors, prime contractors, and individual contractors. Ensure compliance with subcontract terms.
- Audits: Collaborate with HR and Accounting to provide necessary data for annual audits.
- Invoicing: Partner with Accounting to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
- Human Resources: Collaborate with HR and project managers to implement effective performance management strategies for employees.
- Information Technology: Work with IT support to ensure personnel have the required equipment, access to SharePoint/Teams, and necessary software and service subscriptions.
- Business Development: Collaborate with business development personnel to respond to RFIs and RFPs. Engage in discussions regarding go/no-go decisions with upper management.
Qualifications: Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five to ten years of proven experience in overseeing operations for federal government contractors, managing a workforce of 50-70 employees. Ideally, the candidate's background should be in science and engineering-based professional services companies.
Education: - Bachelor's degree in physical sciences (environmental, chemistry, biology, physics) or engineering.
- MBA or MS in Management.
Security: - U.S. Citizenship with a clear financial background and no criminal history.
- Active Secret or Top-Secret clearance is strongly preferred for the DOO role.
