General Statement of Duties The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the Zone Offices, Training, Field Trips, Routing and Time and Attendance (Payroll). The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective transportation of students through daily oversight and management of operations and serves as liaison with school administrators, parents, and students on bus transportation matters. Assists in the daily operation and management of the pupil transportation department and planning for future transportation needs.
Essential Duties • Supervises and evaluates Zone Supervisors, and employees in Field Trips, Routing, Training and Time and Attendance.
• As charged by the Director, establishes operational procedures, and recommends revisions to policies.
• Supervises the planning and implementation of bus schedules and reviews routes for all program areas.
• Maintains and reviews all Pupil Transportation accident reports involving School Board vehicles and recommends appropriate disciplinary action and or training.
• Maintains and reviews all student discipline reports and appropriate disciplinary action.
• Coaches and assists personnel regarding any problematic or unsafe rider behaviors and communicates appropriate responses to behaviors.
• Assists in the planning and implementation of bi-annual In-Service meetings.
• Oversees the scheduling of employee required certifications.
• Assists with the recruitment and retention of transportation employees.
• Assists with the fleet maintenance and repair on all transportation vehicles operated by the School Division
• Answers inquiries, concerns, or complaints from parents and citizens pertaining to school transportation matters. • Provides on-site visits and transportation reviews to division schools.
• As required, serves on behalf of the Director or Assistant Director, and backs up Supervisors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in the field of pupil transportation. Considerable knowledge of pupil transportation programs and services; knowledge of public administration and program management. Extensive knowledge of state and federal mandates and regulations regarding pupil transportation operations. Skill in organizing, staffing, evaluating, planning and public relations; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to analyze situations and to identify and solve problems; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid driver's license required, CDL preferred.
