Job Details:

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting staff with the daily functions of the district. The HR Generalist is the main contact for all aspects of timekeeping and attendance, tracking of accruals, sending correspondence, resolving discrepancies in data, and other general HR-related issues.

As a member of a four-unit team, the HR Generalist assists in managing personnel matters, which may include, collecting and organizing data, filing, and disseminating information, and working with the Business Office while ensuring compliance with District contracts, policies, and procedures as well as applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Successful candidates will have the skill set to create, analyze, and maintain data reports to track personnel activities. This position is a critical part of the HR and the Business Office teams.

Qualifications:

• Associate Degree from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s Degree preferred;
• At least five years of experience in human resources, specifically in the areas of leaves of absence, attendance, and payroll coordination;
• Demonstrated knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, absence management, and daily HR functions;
• Knowledge of current HR legislation/regulations, FMLA, MPLA, ADA, Workers Comp, MGL 150E preferred;
• Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to effectively problem solve;
• Maintaining databases with key data, as it pertains to staffing, retention, seniority, leaves of absence, and other personnel processes;
• Excellent organization, time management, and follow-through; high sense of urgency;
• Outstanding problem-solving and critical thinking skills and desire to use data to drive decision-making;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation, database, and spreadsheet skills; MS Office and Google Suite;
• Ability to learn quickly and to be effective and take initiative in a fast-paced, dynamic, ambitious environment;
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience working as part of a team, managing various projects, working with multiple stakeholders, and resolving personnel issues;
• Demonstrated ability to successfully balance multiple projects concurrently and work independently;
• Demonstrated experience utilizing applicant tracking platforms;
• Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student;
• Experience using TalentEd, Munis, Aspen, and related HR software preferred;

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The HR Generalist will:

• Track, record, and analyze staff attendance data including FMLA, MPLA, and other leaves of absence following all Federal, State, and District policies and procedures;
• Provide support to staff regarding the administration of FMLA, MPLA, and other leaves of absence following all Federal, State, and District policies and procedures;
• Track, record, and analyze staff attendance data on Workman Comp in collaboration with HR at City Hall;
• Calculate and maintain Paid Time Off (PTO) accruals (sick, personal, vacation) (for all units except Nutrition Services);
• Maintain and update the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) for Fitchburg Public Schools;
• Provide staff with employment verification and provide verbal employment verification as necessary;
• Prepare and collaborate with the administration on employee letters of assurance for continued employment each school year;
• Collaborate with the HR team, School Business Office, and City Hall to ensure that staff pay is accurate;
• Complete MTRS buyback requests for substitute teachers (substitute years)
• Complete City Retirement refund applications; processed as requested by Fitchburg City Hall Retirement;
• Enroll all new educators and administration in MTRS;
• Maintain personnel folders and other administrative duties related to attendance reporting;
• Coordinate all attendance with the Payroll and Business Departments

As a member of the HR Team, the following duties may be assigned during the hiring season or in the event a colleague is otherwise unavailable;

• Process all CORIs & assist with SAFIS for FPS District and maintain updated files for Administrative review
• Maintain NCBC log “National Criminal Background Check” and prepare letters of suitability as requested
• Process I-9 forms for new employees promptly
• Maintain personnel address and name changes and collaborate with other departments for accuracy
• Maintain and update current school year Retirement lists and collaborate with the Superintendent & Business Office on retirees.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources, Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Operations, and/or Superintendent.

Terms of Employment/Salary/Work Year:

Salary commensurate with experience; Range: $65,000 - $70,000 Annually

12-month position, some weekends and evenings may be necessary;

Three (3) weeks of vacation, 4 personal days, and paid sick leave.
