Position Summary and Responsibilities The Coordinator is responsible for the operations of an after school tutoring program at Poughkeepsie Middle School, including supervising work-study students and volunteers.
This is a limited term, one-year position with the possibility of renewal/extension for an additional year.
Responsibilities: - Provide supervision of VAST interns and VAST mentors participating either voluntarily, via fieldwork and/or community service work-study.
- Provide and maintain academic and activity resources for VAST scholars and mentors.
- Institute and maintain daily attendance and dismissal protocols and maintain all necessary records (attendance, plans, surveys) needed to report on the program. Arrange transportation to and from PMS of VAST mentors.
- Serve as onsite director of the after school program and maintain the safety of both VAST scholars and mentors and PCSD facilities. Coordinate with PMS teachers, staff, and parents to provide information to new and returning VAST families.
- Conduct and coordinate training sessions for VAST mentors.
- Recruit and implement VAST extra-curricular programming.
- Maintain communication about the program with students, parents, mentors and maintain social media presence.
- Supervise community based tutoring when/if need arises
Qualifications - Bachelors degree and experience in education or related field required.
- Experience in school/college partnerships and or community outreach programs strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated multicultural competence, and knowledge and/or experience working with low-income students from diverse backgrounds.
- Valid drivers license. Must be able to travel within the city and town of Poughkeepsie.
