Health and Wellness Manager Camp Staff Position (Syracuse, IN) – Girl Scouts

If making an impact on the lives of young people helps get you out of bed in the morning, join our Summer Camp Staff for a challenging and rewarding experience of helping girls grow confidence, character, and courage. As a Camp Staffer, you will provide a blend of leadership, instruction, mentorship, and inspiration to campers while guiding them and sharing the joys and adventure of summer camp and program activities.

Our Health and Wellness Manager oversees the administration of medications and treatment for campers and staff.

No Girl Scout experience, not a problem! We are excited to diversify our staff to ensure representation for our campers.

Our camp is located in northeast Indiana . Camp Ella J. Logan was founded on Lake Dewart in Syracuse, Indiana in 1928. Camp serves about 60 girls per week (and a barn full of horses), and days are filled with trails and traditions that empower campers through intentional activity design and cooperative leadership. Join us for a summer of growth, memories, and a few silly songs.

This is seasonal summer employment (June 3 - July 29, 2024) which includes room and board. Must be 18 years old by June 3 rd .

Pay rate: $350 weekly, less taxes and other deductions.

Essential Duties:

• Responsible for the daily administration of medications and/or treatments to campers and staff as authorized in medical treatment procedures or by written consent.
• Keep accurate written records of all medication and treatment given in accordance with GSUSA (Girl Scouts of the USA) and ACA (American Camp Association) Standards.
• Assist staff with campers that have special needs by providing information or assistance as needed.
• Distribute and maintain First Aid supplies, equipment, and essentials for units.
• Oversee the management of the Health Office and Health Office Volunteers.
• Engage in consistent communication with the Camp Director.
• Supervise any campers staying at a designated location for temporary treatments or awaiting camper transportation to leave camp property.
• Screen all incoming campers and staff for existing illnesses or injuries.
• Inventory and organize health facilities and equipment as needed.
• Must maintain professional behavior and have appropriate boundaries with campers and other camp staff.
• Must be willing to and follow-through on completion of required coursework as assigned and provided by GSUSA and GSNI-M: i.e., GSUSA Online Orientation and Specific Camp Orientation.
• Know, follow, respect, and comply with the most current policies, procedures, and guidelines of GSNI-M, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), state camp laws, and ACA standards as applicable.
• Other duties as assigned to ensure completion of GSNI-M goals and to uphold girls’ safety standards as required/defined by GSNI-M.

  Education/Certification:

• Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to attain it)
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
• Other advanced certification by the State of Indiana will be considered.

Knowledge and Experience:

• At least one (1) year of camp nursing or related experience.
• Ability to remain calm in emergencies.
• Discretion and knowledge of protocol regarding confidentiality of health records and patient conditions and treatments.
• Knowledge of appropriate treatment for minor injuries and other conditions requiring First Aid. 

Essential Physical/Mental Requirements:

• Occasional high stress situations may occur with campers and/or staff. Stress may also occur when dealing with staff, parents, girls, and volunteers.
• Ability to self-regulate emotions in stressful situations with children present.
• Frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to thirty (30) pounds.
