POSITION PURPOSE :

The Business Continuity Program is responsible for maintaining a viable program to minimize disruption and ensure continuation of critical business operations during disruptive or crisis events for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and its subsidiaries at all geographical locations. This position is responsible for supporting the Business Continuity Program in the development, management, quality assurance, enhancement and training/exercising of continuity plans for all business units to keep the company functioning after disruptive events.

This position will serve as a Business Continuity Program liaison with business, IT and administrative areas directly involved in the Incident Management, planning, continuity and recovery processes and may represent the department on other corporate projects. This position is responsible for providing support in the development of information for the education and awareness initiatives of the Business Continuity Program and the coordination of these initiatives with other business areas. The candidate must be able to respond to a disaster and assist the company in response and recovery.

Accountable for complying with all laws and regulations associated with duties and responsibilities.

This position reports to the Director of Corporate Safety, Physical Security and Business Continuity.

Necessary Contacts :

To do this job effectively this position will be in contact with all levels of BCBSLA management, consultants, vendors, peers at other companies, and peers at other Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Bachelor’s degree in business, management, information systems, communications, emergency management, disaster recovery, or related field is required. Four years of related work experience can be used in lieu of a degree.

A business continuity or emergency management professional certification is preferred such as a, CFCP (Certified Functional Continuity Professional), CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional), MBCP (Master Business Continuity Professional), Certified Emergency Manager® (CEM®) (FEMA), Fellow Business Continuity Institute, or PMP (Project Management Professional).

Two years’ experience working in one or more of the following areas/industries is required: corporate business continuity, disaster recovery, marketing/communications, healthcare/health insurance, emergency management, project management, and/or audit.

An understanding of current business continuity, disaster recovery, and/or emergency management leading practices and the ability to formulate strategies and recommendations to maintain the company’s business functions is required.

Experience in business impact analysis, documenting the GAP analysis, developing and implementing short-term and long-term continuity and/or recovery strategies on a broad scale through leveraging technology, technology adoption, and tracking progress toward eliminating the gap is preferred.

Experience in designing, conducting, and evaluating testing and training efforts is preferred.

Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to see and understand the business from the corporate view and the ability to influence others to apply techniques to solve dynamic problems.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team as well as manage tactical (daily) operations and participate in the development of strategic program plans, with the willingness to adopt new processes, tools and methodologies as required.

High level of attention to detail and accuracy is necessary along with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both verbal and written form. Strong interpersonal and multi-tasking skills are a must.

Must be on call with the expectation of carrying a cell phone to be able to effectively respond to disaster situations 24/7 365 days a year.
