About the Position
Position is primarily responsible for the management and oversight of the Fitness Department at Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads, including program coordination, implementation, and promotion, equipment maintenance, and contracts that are essential to its daily operation. Duties including overseeing the fitness center and pool for safety and function; collaborating with Life Enrichment and GHBC staff to create a program of fitness classes that meets needs across the spectrum of care and dimensions of wellness; performing physical assessments; monitoring individual exercise programs; and, conducting exercise classes and personal training sessions.
Job Duties
Manage Fitness Specialist, contracted professionals, volunteers, and contracted personal trainers
Develops and submits budget for overall fitness program; Monitors expenditures for compliance with budgetary guidelines.
Conducts exercise classes regularly according to departmental guidelines; Monitors participant exercise techniques for safety.
Solicits and encourages resident participation in fitness programs by visiting with new residents, writing articles of interest for newsletter, and demonstrating exercise techniques to enhance understanding.
Monitors individual exercise programs of residents for progress and makes modifications as needed; Ensures physician permission forms are up-to-date and on file.
Oversees the fitness center to ensure equipment is functioning properly and participants are using equipment correctly.
Contributes extensively toward achieving departmental goals and objectives, especially supporting the 6-dimensions of wellness initiative.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline preferred (exercise science) or equivalent required with additional training in senior exercise programs or equivalent credentials such as ACSM, ACE and/or a certified weight/strength training experience with senior adults. Must be a Certified Personal Trainer.
Minimum of two years’ experience in senior physical fitness, therapy, or related field preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Must have computer skills in basic word processing.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with others.
Must be CPR Certified.
