Work Schedule:Full time- 37.5 hours per week

SCOPE OF WORK: To perform technical and administrative duties associated with the processing of student financial aid and the administration of comprehensive financial aid programs (as determined by the Financial Aid Director) in compliance with federal and state regulations and system policies. This position shall report to the Interim Director of Financial Aid at Nashua Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in business administration, accounting, information technology, education or related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years of experience in a paraprofessional or technical role performing administrative support, customer service, and/or technical duties in student financial aid, admissions, accounting, or a related field preferably within education. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Valid drivers’ license or access to transportation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to serve as bilingual and bicultural resource for NCC faculty, staff, students, and community; previous experience working within the Latino student population and/or community; commitment to customer service; ability to multi-task; strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals of other cultures.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Working knowledge of MS Office Software Packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and the SCT Banner Integrated Computer System. Knowledge of financial aid procedures and policies. Experience working within a community outreach/liaison role.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Some evening hours and travel are required throughout the year. For appointment consideration, Program Assistant II applicants must successfully participate in an interview measuring possession of knowledge, skills and abilities identified as necessary for satisfactory job performance by this class specification.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of federal financial aid policies and procedures and understanding of financial aid functions and operations. General knowledge of current literature in financial aid. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Knowledge of English, spelling and arithmetic. Knowledge of the procedures and practices involved in interviewing. Knowledge of office record keeping and reporting. Knowledge of the regulations pertaining to federal financial aid. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration. Ability to gather, assemble, correlate and analyze facts and identify existing or potential problems. Ability to contribute to the development of sound operational procedures. Ability to make sound judgment in appraising situations and making routine decisions. Ability to follow specific instructions in gathering facts, data or resources in organizing required information. Ability to make decisions based upon fact-finding interviews within the parameters of the rules and policies of the college. Ability to meet with students and families and explain programs sponsored by the financial aid department. Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
