Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women’s Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.

Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.

Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.

Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties. Position Summary:

This position is eligible for a Sign On Bonus of $2,500 to be paid in two installment:
- $ 1,250 within 30 days of your hire date and
- $ 1,250 12 months after hire date

The Licensed Practical Nurse in the Same Day Care Allergy Clinic setting within the Department of Nursing Service is responsible for organizing and providing direct patient care for those patients served by Campus Health; applying clinical expertise in the utilization of the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation); recognizing that the scope and complexity of patient’s conditions vary from primary to chronic and routine to acute; and acts as a liaison between the health care provider and patient to promote optimal patient care Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Graduated for an approved Licensed Practical Nurse Program
Possession of a current NC license to practice as a Practical Nurse.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

6 months’ experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Experience in the ambulatory care setting helpful.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Possession of a current NC license to practice as a Practical Nurse. Current CPR certification.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements :

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Daily, physical effort and stamina are required for the delivery of direct and indirect patient care. Examples include transporting, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, and monitoring of patient demand throughout the clinics that require extensive walking throughout the workday.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE EXPOSURE: Direct exposure to infectious diseases specific to this age group (i.e., meningitis, mononucleosis, AIDS, Hepatitis, Streptococcal infections, sexually transmitted infections, upper respiratory infections, etc.). Safeguards include utilization of Standard Precautions, provision of personal protective equipment in all clinical areas and mandatory completion of trainings from Environment, Health and Safety relevant to the position (i.e. Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure, TB training, Hazardous Materials Training).

VISUAL ATTENTION, MENTAL CONCENTRATION AND MANIPULATIVE SKILLS: Visual acuity is essential for the physical assessment and implementation of nursing/medical care daily. Examples may include examining patients, reading medical charts, documentation of physical findings and preparation and administration of medication. Mental concentration is required to document physical assessment findings to ensure that the data collected is thorough and accurate. Manual dexterity is required in the performance of many areas of direct and indirect patient care. These may include placement of an intravenous catheter, application of sterile dressings and administration of medication. Touch is used for diagnostic measures such as the temperature of the skin or detecting the presence of masses. Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
