LOCATION: Waterbury Criminal Court, Waterbury CT

SCHEDULE: 30 hours per week – Monday through Friday – 9am to 3pm

HOURLY RATE: $22.30 ($34,788 annual)

AGENCY DESCRIPTION :

One of the oldest organizations of its kind in the country, Community Partners in Action (CPA) was founded nearly 150 years ago to champion criminal justice reform and advocate for preserving the dignity of those in and out of prison. Through our programs that include reentry and housing, youth initiatives, a nationally recognized Prison Arts Program, and holistic alternatives to incarceration, we provide long-term impact that positively transforms individuals and society at large. Annually serving nearly 5,000 individuals throughout Connecticut, our work is possible due to partnerships with and support from individuals, government, private funders, organizations, and businesses.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Reporting to CPA with an ancillary report to the State's Attorney or his/her designee, and stationed primarily in the Waterbury courthouse, the Assessment and Resource Coordinator serves as the primary assessor of defendant risk and needs as well as functioning as an informed “clearinghouse” on the availability, efficacy and appropriateness of alternative sanctions and programming. The Assessment and Resource Coordinator is responsible for assessing the suitability of defendants for various alternative sanctions and programming and making appropriate recommendations to the State's Attorney's Office.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 A bachelor's or master's degree in social work or a closely related field OR a bachelor's degree and one (1) year of professional experience in self-directed use of case management techniques. Experience may be considered in lieu of education. The ideal candidate will have experience in both the social service and criminal justice sectors and knowledge of Waterbury catchment area service providers. Knowledge of reciprocal relationship between individuals and their social, economic and cultural environment; knowledge of human social behavior; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to relate to different cultural and economic backgrounds; ability to organize time, set priorities and manage workload; knowledge of Waterbury community providers that offer services to the justice-involved population; crisis management skills; ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships with diverse stakeholders; a valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required; bi-lingual capacity (English/Spanish) preferred.
