LOCATION: Waterbury Criminal Court, Waterbury CT

SCHEDULE: 30 hours per week – Monday through Friday – 9am to 3pm

HOURLY RATE: $22.30 ($34,788 annual)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Reporting to CPA with an ancillary report to the State's Attorney or his/her designee, and stationed primarily in the Waterbury courthouse, the Assessment and Resource Coordinator serves as the primary assessor of defendant risk and needs as well as functioning as an informed “clearinghouse” on the availability, efficacy and appropriateness of alternative sanctions and programming. The Assessment and Resource Coordinator is responsible for assessing the suitability of defendants for various alternative sanctions and programming and making appropriate recommendations to the State's Attorney's Office.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 A bachelor's or master's degree in social work or a closely related field OR a bachelor's degree and one (1) year of professional experience in self-directed use of case management techniques. Experience may be considered in lieu of education. The ideal candidate will have experience in both the social service and criminal justice sectors and knowledge of Waterbury catchment area service providers. Knowledge of reciprocal relationship between individuals and their social, economic and cultural environment; knowledge of human social behavior; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to relate to different cultural and economic backgrounds; ability to organize time, set priorities and manage workload; knowledge of Waterbury community providers that offer services to the justice-involved population; crisis management skills; ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships with diverse stakeholders; a valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required; bi-lingual capacity (English/Spanish) preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

• Assisting the State's Attorney's Office in identifying appropriate Waterbury catchment area community and/or court-based service/social service sanctions for defendants, such as mandated drug treatment as an alternative to incarceration.
• Conducting preliminary mental health, substance abuse, and criminogenic assessments.
• Maintaining up to date and comprehensive knowledge of the availability and effectiveness of court and catchment area community-based services/sanctions.
• Serving as an intermediary between the State's Attorney's Office, community service and court based social services.
• Engaging in community meetings with the police departments as required.
• Reporting on compliance (including notices of sentence satisfaction and violation notices) and providing detailed case information to the State's Attorney's Office including all communications.
• Providing monthly Resource Coordinator activity reports, updates, and accomplishments no later than ten business days after the close of the month.
• Reporting monthly data points on assigned spreadsheets no later than ten business days after the close of each month.
• Providing quarterly, semiannual, and annual reporting in a format and frequency as required by the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ).
• Participating in community outreach, including attending community meetings and maintaining relationships with residents, youth programs, schools, police, government, non-profit agencies and community-based organizations.
• Assisting in troubleshooting and problem solving with respect to the integration of the assessment and resource coordination function into the criminal justice system as a whole and into the Office of the State's Attorney in specific.
• Completing data entry for new clients and updates for current clients.
• Familiarizing yourself with the different court departments that you will collaborate with.
• Participate in any required training.
• Performing all other duties as required.
