Job Summary:
The Student Sonographer performs ultrasound examinations at a technical level in accordance with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements, under the direction of a licensed provider.

 

Essential Duties:
Executes all varieties of diagnostic ultrasound exams presently offered by the department; performs all examinations in accordance with American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) standards and department protocols; determines correct techniques to obtain images of the highest quality and resolution; determines suitable areas for needle aspirations and/or tissue biopsies for pathologic diagnosis; performs intra-operative determines provisional diagnoses and participates (along with supervising Radiologist) in the final exam diagnosis.
Serves as a liaison between patients, interpreting physicians (Radiologists) and referring physicians; explains testing procedures to patient; ensures that emergent exam results are relayed promptly to the appropriate physician or medical floor.
Utilizes appropriate educational resources to maintain currency in diagnostic sonography, and assists in various educational services relating to both staff and patients.
Performs incidental office duties as necessary to maintain the completeness of the patient record; ensures that patient data is entered correctly and that patients are billed appropriately.
Assists with Quality Assurance/Improvements audits and activities as required.

Education/Experience:
Currently enrolled in the final year of an accredited training program in Cardiac and/or General diagnostic sonography.


License/Certification:

Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
