Job description

Part-time/On-call – no guarantee of hours

Douglas County Sheriff's Office

To provide security duties of a uniformed officer in the Justice Hall court rooms. 

Essential functions :

Requires regular and consistent availability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

In addition, applications will be evaluated on the following: 

Reasonable knowledge of the court system and familiarity with both walk-through and hand-held metal detectors. S kill in listening techniques and principles. Requires skill with a semi-automatic pistol. Ability to qualify with a semi-automatic pistol semi-annually; ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral forms; relate to and deal with aggressive or emotionally disturbed individuals; work independently; manage time efficiently; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures and use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; utilize problem identification and resolution techniques; establish and maintain records, reports and statistical data; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, law enforcement officials, court personnel, attorneys, public agencies and the public.

Work is performed in a crowded/confined court environment which requires bending, color identification, climbing stairs, gripping hands & fingers, hearing alarms and voice conversation, occasionally lifting/carrying up to 14 pounds, reaching, sitting, standing, standing long periods and walking.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION : Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment chemical detection screen. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditioned upon satisfactory results of a post-offer audiological exam; conducted at county expense.

Thorough background investigation (including LEDS) will be conducted.
