ABOUT FEEDING OUR COMMUNITIES PARTNERS
Feeding Our Communities Partners has a mission to engage our community in solving youth hunger. We envision a community in which hunger is not a barrier to success and believe that feeding hungry youth allows for active minds during the school day. FOCP fulfills this mission primarily through the work of the BackPack Food Program (serving elementary students), Power Pack Program (serving middle school students), Summer Pack Program (serving K-12 students), and onsite food pantries for High School students. These programs provide youth hunger relief on weekends and school breaks. Collectively, FOCP programs serve over 1,200 students each week at 35 school buildings within 6 school districts and 13 communities in South Central Minnesota.
ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the consistent achievement of FOCP’s mission and financial objectives. The Executive Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for staff, programs, new initiatives, events, and funding.
The Executive Director will develop deep knowledge of the hunger-relief field, core programs, operations, fund development, and strategic priorities. Responsibilities include:
Strategy and Planning
- Develop and lead the strategy of FOCP to guide operational decision-making. Execute the strategic plan as developed with FOCP board and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain collaborative processes with the Board of Directors, committee members, volunteers, and employees that will result in the achievement of goals, objectives, and operational plans for FOCP.
- Oversee the preparation of the annual budget with the support of the Finance Committee.
- Prepare necessary financial documents. Create monthly financial overview for the Board of Directors.
- Cultivate a strong partnership with the Board of Directors in setting policies consistent with the FOCP's mission.
Fund Development
- Manage all fund development activities, including, but not limited to, grant writing, cultivation and stewardship of donors, event planning, and identification of new resources.
- Work collaboratively with Community Relations Manager to actively seek and maintain a diverse donor base of individuals, businesses, foundations, government segments, and other sources of revenue.
- Build long-term relationships with donors that include appropriate recognition and appreciation.
- Lead FOCP's financial growth to maintain healthy and diverse funding and develop, implement, and manage initiatives consistent with FOCP's mission.
Organizational Management
- Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
- Lead, motivate, and develop Board of Directors, committee members, volunteers, and employees to be passionate about what FOCP has achieved and maintain commitment to work effectively toward continual improvement.
- Ensure FOCP has diverse members of the Board of Directors, committee members, volunteers, and employees with skills appropriate to FOCP's needs.
- Ensure FOCP has the appropriate systems, physical space, assets, transportation, and technology to operate efficiently and effectively.
- Supervise committee members, volunteers, and employees to ensure that work is being performed efficiently and is consistent with the best interests of FOCP.
Public Relations/Advocacy
- Promote FOCP's visibility and welfare through participation and membership in community forums, civic organizations, and activities that are aligned with FOCP's vision and mission.
- Oversee the execution of marketing and media relations.
- Represent FOCP in media relations by participating in interviews, providing quotes for press releases, and speaking at other community engagements. Program Development and Implementation
- Oversee and support the development, design, and delivery of initiatives, assuring that goals and objectives are aligned with FOCP's overall strategic plan.
- Oversee and support the administrative components of all initiatives including any necessary contract negotiations and contract and grant reporting.
- Provide quality assurance monitoring of all FOCP initiatives, assuring correction of any deficiencies in program services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, a related field or comparable work experience
- 5 years of senior management experience
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field and at least three years of related senior management experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams; set and achieve strategic objectives; and manage a budget
- Past success working with a Board of Directors and the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
