The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is a 400,000-member-strong, progressive, fighting union with one of the largest and most diverse memberships in North America. Our members are employed in a range of workplaces, from multinational corporations to small manufacturers, state and local governments, colleges and universities, hospitals, and private non-profit organizations.

The UAW is building an ambitious political program to unite working class communities across the country and advance legislation that will win material gains for UAW members and workers everywhere. The UAW is seeking an experienced Legislative Director with the vision and experience to execute big, bold campaigns to help build this movement and secure legislative victories.

Candidates should be skilled and experienced at leading and developing legislative campaign strategies, mentoring, and coaching staff and leaders on electoral and legislative interventions and providing union leadership and staff with detailed legislative updates and working with other departments to develop a political education program. Ideal candidates will possess mastery of or willingness to learn about a range of issue areas, such as manufacturing, electric vehicles, healthcare, retirement, trade, higher education, and more.

This job is based out of the UAW’s Washington D.C. office. Candidates must be willing to work long and irregular hours and to travel frequently with overnight stays.

Successful candidates will exhibit discerning judgment, exemplary people skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate is both a team player who can collaborate with an enthusiastic staff and a self-driven individual adept at time and task management.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a full time, exempt position based in Washington DC. The UAW offers a salary of $141,918, along with best-in-class health, retirement, and paid time off benefits.
