Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley University Health Services (UHS) is a fully accredited, comprehensive campus-based health center providing primary and urgent medical care, counseling and psychological services, ancillary services such as radiology, pharmacy and laboratory, and innovative health promotion programs for students, faculty, and staff. UHS maintains on-campus medical and mental health care at main clinics located within the Tang Center and two satellite clinics for intercollegiate athletics (IA) through Cal Sports Medicine at Simpson Center and Haas Pavilion; off-campus care is coordinated by clinics through a referral process within a network of community specialists and hospitals. In addition, UHS administers a major medical insurance plan, Student Health Insurance, for the general student population, as well as third-party plans for intercollegiate athletes.

Cal Sports Medicine is a joint unit between UHS and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, health care for Cal varsity athletes is provided at the main clinics at the Tang Center and clinics located at the Simpson Center/Cal Memorial Stadium and Haas Pavilion. Cal Athletics sponsors 30 varsity sports programs which include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
