Job description
Our client a vertically integrated developer owner & operator of retail assets with $1BAUM seeks a Controller with 5 years real estate or property accounting experience with retail/shopping centers or commercial assets to join their expanding team.
The Controller is primarily responsible for developing & executing strategic plans to maximize each shopping center s financial performance collaborating with property managers to create cost savings & efficiency and increase profitability.
This is a fully onsite role based in Chino and our client provides excellent PPO for medical dental and vision 100% paid by the company.
A day in the life of the successful Controller includes but is not limited to:
- Utilizing Yardi software to oversee property accounting functions ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data
- Managing data entry rent collections accounts payable and general ledger accounting using Yardi
- Preparing and reviewing financial statements budgets and cash flow reports within the Yardi system and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting to management
- Overseeing propertylevel accounting processes including rent collections expense reconciliations and CAM (Common Area Maintenance) accounting in Yardi
- Reviewing CAM budgeting and CAM reconciliations as performed by your team
- Managing lease data within the Yardi system tracking lease terms rent escalations and tenant obligations
- Working closely with property managers to ensure lease compliance and accuracy
- Reviewing all monthend (M/E) quarterend (Q/E) and yearend (Y/E) closes of the General Ledgers
- Conducting financial analysis using Yardi data to support investment decisions budgeting and performance assessments
- Identify trends variances and opportunities for portfolio optimization
- Coordinate tax reporting and compliance for commercial properties and adherence to local state and federal tax regulations
- Interacting with other accounting team members and property managers to resolve any accounting issues
- Leading and mentoring a team of accounting professionals while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment
- Evaluating and enhancing accounting processes systems and controls with a focus on Yardi software
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
Requirements
The ideal Controller candidate possesses the following skills & experience:
- Bachelors degree in accounting Finance or related field (Masters degree or CPA preferred)
- At least five (5) years of accounting experience in Real Estate or Property Management
- A solid understanding of Yardi accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Proven experience in accounting with Real Estate Accounting Manager qualifications
- Experience consolidating financial statements
- Strong knowledge of real estate financial reporting and lease accounting
- Financial planning and analysis exposure (FP&A)
- Proven experience in managing and motivating a team effectively
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Exceptional skills in financial analysis problemsolving and attention to detail
- Detailoriented forwardthinking leader who ensures financial operations are efficient accurate and compliant
- Ability to work independently if needed in a fastpaced environment
