Job description

The Director of  CAN serves as a member of the Advancement leadership team and is responsible for the oversight and management of the Camel Athletics Network. The Camel Athletics Network ( CAN ) is dedicated to advancing and sustaining varsity athletics at Connecticut College by engaging alumni and parents in a robust athletic network and providing a dynamic fundraising platform through which donors can support the athletics program as well as priorities of the College’s comprehensive campaign.

1. Set clear vision, goals, and objectives for all key aspects of the Camel Athletic Network

2. Plan, develop and lead the Camel Athletics Fund, a comprehensive giving program for athletics that increases the annual, capital, and endowment support, expands the donor base, and builds a pipe-line for future leadership donors.

3. Work closely with the Director Leadership Gifts to develop of robust leadership giving program for former athletics, supporting the goals and objectives of the College’s strategic and campaign plans.

4. Work closely with Director of Alumni Engagement to coordinate the management of a vigorous engagement network for former athletes.

5. Significantly raise the profile of athletics through the Camel Athletic Network by working closely with the Director of Athletics.

6. Work closely with the Director of Advancement Communications to develop a communication plan for athletic fundraising and engagement, including the creation and segmentation of all mailings as well as electronic solicitations and use of social media.

7. Create an annual fundraising plan for the Camel Athletics Fund to retain donors and develop strategy for acquisition of new donors including regular analysis of athletic donors and non-donors on a regular basis as well as return and profit analysis of solicitation strategies.

8. Develop strong internal relationships within Advancement as well as throughout the College in order to bring information and resources to cultivation and solicitation efforts. Offer prospect strategy counsel to the President, Vice President for College Advancement, and Advancement staff who are managing other athletics prospects. Be a resource for Advancement staff, from identifying potential volunteer connections.

9. Manage a portfolio of athletics prospects as a member of the leadership giving team. Expected travel 20-25%.

10. Establish strong relationships with prospective donors with an eye toward meeting College and personal fundraising goals.

Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of higher education or relevant work experience; Master’s preferred.

2. Experience working on capital/endowment and/or comprehensive campaign(s) preferred.

3. Proven track record in soliciting and securing leadership gifts through fieldwork preferred.

4. Well organized and results-oriented; exceptional prioritization and follow-up skills.

5. Ability to present a polished and enthusiastic demeanor while aggressively and resourcefully advancing the institutional priorities of Connecticut College.

6. Excellent oral and written communications skills.

7. Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to build and sustain key relationships with donors, alumni, faculty, and staff; ability to motivate staff, colleagues and alumni volunteers and to work with all staff within College Advancement.

8. Attention to detail, and strong computer skills; Integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.

9. Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the College.

10. Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the College’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with faculty, senior academic leaders, trustees, volunteers, Communications and Advancement colleagues.

11. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.

12. Ability to handle confidential information with impeccable discretion

13. Travel and weekend work required.
