Job description
As an Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in optimizing and improving the efficiency of production processes within our organization. You will be responsible for conducting time studies, analysing data, and identifying areas for improvement to enhance productivity and reduce costs. Your expertise in process improvement and time management will be essential in driving operational excellence. This role will be located at our PTI location in Hickory, NC

HSM specializes through its subsidiaries, in the manufacturing of components for furniture, bedding, transportation, packaging, automotive, and healthcare industries. We also design and construct automated production machinery for these industries. • Conduct time studies and gather data on production processes to determine the most efficient methods and identify areas for improvement.
• Analyze data collected during time studies to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas where productivity can be enhanced.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production managers, engineers, and technicians, to develop and implement process improvement initiatives.
• Design and implement work methods, procedures, and layouts to optimize workflow and minimize waste.
• Develop and maintain accurate time standards for various tasks and operations.
• Create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.
• Provide training and guidance to employees on improved processes and time management techniques.
• Utilize software tools and systems to track and monitor productivity metrics.
• Conduct capacity studies by assessing and analyzing the unit's production process, determining how to improve its system efficiency, and performing research to measure changes in production or market demand for products.
• Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements related to time study and process improvement.
Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements:
• Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze complex data sets to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency in time study methodologies, work measurement techniques, and process improvement tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen.
• Advanced knowledge of productivity software tools, such as Microsoft Excel or statistical analysis software, to analyze data and generate reports.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering practical and efficient solutions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and effectively convey ideas and recommendations.
• Detail-oriented and highly observant to accurately capture and document time study data.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and production systems is preferred.
• Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in conducting time studies and implementing process improvement initiatives.
• Certification in Lean Methodology, Six Sigma, or any related field is a plus.
• Proficiency in time study software and tools is highly desirable.
• Strong mathematical and statistical skills.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
