Job Summary

Are you interested in advancing economic equity and opportunity? PPL is looking for a strong, operational leader with the social/emotional skills to lead a large and diverse set of teams. The Employment Training (ET) Department is housed under Career Readiness. This Director position is responsible for the management and operations of the ET Department, with services provided at both our south Minneapolis Career Center and 800 W Broadway locations. This includes oversight of all aspects of Career Pathways, Supportive Services, Homeownership, and Financial Coaching, as well as data integration and evaluation. This role leads six direct reports, with an indirect team of 27. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The following duties are normal for this position. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

• Work closely with the VP of Career Readiness to elevate ET goals and outcomes and steward action steps to meet the goals outlined in the organizational Strategic Plan and budget.
• Work closely with the Associate Director of Employment Training, overseeing all aspects of grants and contracts, including reporting, monitoring visits, compliance, and budgets.
• Work closely with the Grants Finance Manager for financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting program needs.
• Partner with the fundraising and development team to meet proposal and reporting requirements.
• Work closely with the Director of Employer Development and Associate Director of Employment Training to develop responsive, efficient, and high-quality programming for the individuals we serve, resulting in realized program and organizational goals.
• Work in partnership with the other Program Directors to provide comprehensive programming to PPL Participants, Students, and Residents.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with Education and Employer Partners, Grant Funders, and community/government agencies to ensure efficient and impactful programs.
•  Knowledge of community needs and employment trends is necessary to ensure efficient and high-quality programming for the individuals we serve.
• Work closely with the Systems Reporting Specialist regarding program data collection standards and procedures and data disaggregation and evaluation. Utilize data to refine program design.
• Serve as point person to key employment program initiatives specific to PPL or our community efforts in the employment arena.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate new program ideas as they arise.
• Represent programs on organization-wide committees and work groups as requested or directed.
• Collaborate with PPL’s leadership team to create organizational culture and behavior.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff to maintain quality within the program; also encourage growth and development of current staff to enhance the professionalism within the department. This role currently has six direct reports.
• Identify individual and program training initiatives to provide professional development opportunities for existing staff.
• Complete performance evaluations and provide appropriate coaching and counseling to ensure all employees perform satisfactorily; identify when discipline is appropriate.

• The qualified candidate must have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to see projects through to completion in a timely manner.
• Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, ethnic cultures, and economic and social situations.
• Knowledge of employment and training trends, resources, community agencies, and other programs.
• An experienced and effective leader of people and teams who prioritizes growth and development.
• Effectively build and manage program and project budgets.
• Working knowledge of employment training funding streams, philanthropic, public, and private.
• Interest and ability in working with program data.
• Other duties as assigned.

Technology Qualifications

• Strong computer skills, including competency in the use of Outlook, Teams, Microsoft Word, and Excel
• Competency in using databases; exposure to WorkForce One and/or SalesForce is especially helpful.
• Ability to develop and maintain detailed statistical data and quantitative information.
• Analytical skills to compare data over time and present results in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Budget and financial accounting experience.

Education and/or Experience:  

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Management, or a related field is preferred; a Master’s degree is appreciated.
• 5 years of Program Management and supervisory experience are required.
• Any combination of equivalent education and work experience is acceptable.

PPL's work is now a Hybrid Model. Our Hybrid Model refers to the split between working in the office or onsite at satellite locations (60%) and at home (40%) of the time. A 5-day work week equates to three days working in the office and the opportunity to work from home for the other two days.

Salary:  $88,000.00-$98,000.00 Yr., DOQ
